I think most people here are okay with that.

It looks like there is a winner and a loser in this epic power struggle. I'm not going to worry about or gloat over the current dysfunctional state of the Red Sox. I'm much more concerned about our team, although this did provide some good cheap theatre for a couple of months

Hopefully, he's upgraded his disguises for when he gets ejected.

Very much looking forward to a train wreck on Yawkey Way.

You may get your wish. :(:

Now here is a PRIME example at how the Boston media attacks a baseball story.
You would never see CSN-Chicago do this

I'm not so sure. Valentine -- and his no nonsense attitude -- might be exactly what Boston needs right now.

From my twitter people it sounds like nobody from Boston bothered to tell Gene Lamont one way or another about this... that's kind of bush. Isn't it custom and polite to tell a "finalist" that they did not get the job?

I wonder if this whole "struggle" between ownership and the GM is just a ploy. Neither side was that thrilled with the candidates and immediate future of the team so let the ownership take the bullet on this for the rookie GM. That way when there's the failure, which they both expect, it won't be on the GM since it wasn't his guy anyway. Otherwise the GM takes unnecessary heat given the intensity and drama that Boston media forces on their team.

Conspiracy, yes.

Eh, I really don't see what the big deal is, he had moderate success in Texas before anyone in Texas knew what a baseball looked like and then he had a nice run with the Mets for a few years that isn't as successful as it could have been because he was going head-to-head with the Braves at the height of their dynasty. Oh, and now he gets to take over the Yankees Lite, a real challenge. A blind monkey could manage them to 90 wins.

Who cares, this is ESPN. I hope Valentine destroys that organization.

On a side note, I heard on last night's Nick and Artie Show that Valentine credits himself for creating the wrap. They played some audio...he definitely loves his own voice, and is probably insane.

I think that Bobby V could do well there if they get rid of the guys that don't fall in line. The rumors that Cherington wasn't keen on him aren't a good sign. I guess the Sawx are back to being their selves before the titles: dysfunctional.

Even by the whacky standards of Boston, the media is going overboard on Bobby. The Globe has THREE stories on the FRONT page today.

Valentine a risky choice for Sox
The man who will be introduced today as the 45th manager of the Red Sox is a gentleman who is incapable of staying out of the news, says Bob Ryan.

What will drive fans in other cities nuts is ESPN because of Valentine will cover Boston even more. :?:

Sounds to me like he'll fit right in with the Boston media then. They can't stay off the talk show circuit themselves.

Not to mention their ****ing fans who can't help but bring them up in every conservation no matter how unrelated to the topic it is.

Nah...they probably just didn't want to wake him up. Either that or they preferred not to disturb him during his second dinner.

Bobby Valentine will wear No. 25 for a reason that’ll be sure to please fans of the team in the 1960's -it was Tony Conigliaro’s number.

Valentine as Tony's last roommate when they were with San Diego.
