That is a ton of money and years tied up in a closer that seems like his best years are behind him. I think the Red Sox were wise not to match or beat that offer. Is Bobby Jenks really what they are talking about using at closer next year in Boston or do they have someone else in mind?

Bard most likely would become the closer BUT he seems to be more suited as a set up man.

I guess we won't hear this at Fenway anymore - the song now belongs to the Broons...

I think Papelbon did the Sawx a favor. He rebounded well this year, but his downward trends don't lie. Other than Mariano, I can't give a closer the same money as a position player. The Phils better be right. They need sticks at three positions (1B, 3B, LF).

If "Papelbum" thinks Sawx fans were hard on him, I can't wait for his first blown save at Citizen's Bank Park.
Phillies fans might throw snowballs in June,if it were possible. And this is coming from an outsider who happens
to be a Phillies fan that does not believe in throwning anything on the field of play.

Kind of like paying top price for a car with 120,000 miles on it. No way I give a closer this amount of $$$$.

Besides, PHI didn't bomb in the playoffs because of their pitching. They left their bats in the racks. They need a LF, 3B, and at least a fill-in 1B option.

Why pay a closer this ridiculous contract?

Amen to that. Way overpaid, way over-valued. And the wrong fans to have to endear himself to.

Charrington said Boston had no interest in matching Philly's offer.

Joe Nathan seems to be on their radar. :?:

Better be careful there, Fenway. He may be on his way down faster than Papelbum or Bobby Jenks,IMO.

Just talked to my dad. He lives 45 minutes away from Citzens Bank Park. He shed a bright light
on this subject for me.I now have a clue as to why the Phils signed Papelbum instead of Madson.
Guess who represents Madson?? You guessed it.

I doubt Madson gets 4 years and $50 million.
