View Full Version : What is a World Series championship truly worth to a team?

Obviously, you have the gate/parking/concessions from 11 additional home games. You would also have merchandise revenue from world series shirts/hats/DVDs/etc. I am sure there are a lot of other places where the team would cash in as well. Looking over the past 10 years or so, the Phillies significantly increased payroll after '08, the Red Sox after '04, the Sox after '05, the Angels after '02, etc. I'm not just referring to the immediate season after. Those teams have consistently had much higher payrolls every year since their World Series than the years before. Even the Yankees didn't become spend crazy until after they won in the late '90's.

What are some reasonable estimates on what a team takes in for winning the World Series?
