Maybe I haven't been paying attention to the Gold Glove awards for awhile, but I can remember when it was common for two or three center fielders among a league's three outfield awards.

Naming finalist and having a live ceremony for any postseason award seems rather odd to me.

Surprised to see A.J. as a finalist. Disappointed that Beckham wasn't. He really played well in the field this season.

They split up the outfield positions to individual positions (LF, CF, RF). In the past it was all lumped together as "OF".

AJ at C?? :lol::lol:

That just screams "who is a big name C we can put in and have finish 3rd"

Hilarious at AJ being on this. Lol-worthy indeed.

He'll still be announced as the winner.

Just a quick note on this:

Konerko 5th in AL
Beckham 3rd in AL
Ramirez 5th in AL
Morel 5th in AL
AJ T1 in AL
Buehrle 1 error in 56 chances, T10 but no one came close with chances and innings pitched factored
Pierre 5th in AL
Rios 6th in AL
RF did not qualify

Burls and AJ both have a shot, Beckham should have been considered at the very least.

2011 did not have a horrible fielding team.

Beckham should be on that list. He is one of the top defensive 2B out there. However, if you don't hit well, you don't get the gold glove which is downright silly. I would love to know why hitting is considered for gold gloves now.

It has been for years, Ozzie Smith was the exception, not the norm.

Mark will probably win it, as it is an award that becomes a repeat award quite easily once the ice is broken.

Youkilis at 3B? :rolleyes::lol:

That's even funnier than Pierzynski being a finalist.

No kidding! He actually fielded better this year and isn't included!

Buehrle has perpetually been the best fielding pitcher. Absolutely nothing gets past him unless it's hit way over his head.

Ironic defensive award show was delayed by a 63-60 NIU over Toledo victory...That was some crazy bad defense. It was almost like it was movie stunt men pretending to try to tackle to allow the star of the movie to make fantastic runs. Both teams.

Another feather (hopefully not the final one) in his White Sox HOF career. He may not get into the MLB HOF, but he will definitely be in the Sox HOF.

So much for Danny Doeren being a defensive minded coach.

Congrats to Burls. He has easily become my favorite player on the Sox.

Big YES for Mark! The guy should probably have twice that at this point in his career, but it is better late than never.

That is true but I think the problem has been that he can't hit!

On the contrary, does anyone else find it rather odd that Buehrle started winning Gold Gloves the same season that he hit that home run against the Brewers?

More proof that you need offense to win Gold Gloves!

I'm glad to see that AJ was nominated too, eventhough he's apparently a "horrible" catcher......

Huh, interesting.
I think the bones people have with AJ have nothing to do with his actual fielding, but instead with his inability to throw out runners.

That's a pretty big part of fielding your position as a catcher

That's a pretty big part of fielding your position as a catcherAnd yet, while watching games on Extra Innings and thus getting the other teams' feeds a lot, I hear commentator after commentator talk about how bad White Sox pitchers are at holding runners on (exception Buehrle and Danks) and that most of the bases are stolen off the pitcher, not AJ. Just sayin'.

This is absolutely true. AJ is probably in the bottom half of arm strength now but his pitchers do him absolutely no favors.

Is percentage of runners thrown out a stat kept when judging a catcher's fielding? I always thought it had to do solely with stuff like passed balls.

I think it's a combination of the pitcher and catcher.

It can be, he also does a poor job of defending his position, he has, at times, struggled with balls in the dirt, and he has the power to force pitchers to hold runners, he just doesn't do it, he may have a reason for it though.
