This (https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150370601964746) is what will happen when a ball leaves the park via Marlin bat.

That's awful.

Looks like something out of a Japanese game show.

Also, lucky that Hanley Ramirez will be bunting a lot more to avoid such things. He "looks like" a guy who should be able to bunt.

That's hideous. And according to Jeff Passan on Twitter, it only cost $2.5 million of taxpayer money. :o:

This is like when Archie Bunker was offended by The Kiss, so he bought a statue that he considered to be a work of art, to replace it.

Veeck would approve of the concept, but not the execution. That rendering just looks cheap, like a collection of tacky electric Christmas lawn ornaments.

Since they're already building it I hope the finished product looks a lot better. This illustration is strictly out to lunch.

Yeah, the guy with an ash tray built into his wooden peg was all about class, never tacky.

I meant to say the new logo. I can only assume the uniforms that match that logo and color scheme are going to be hideous.

Given that we invented the Exploding Scoreboard (not a bad thing), shouldn't we be one of the last fandoms to be critical of this?

They claim to have 2.3 million tickets sold

They did draw 3,064,847 in their first year (1993)

Ponder this - the Marlins in 19 years have won 2 World Series and have never won the NL East.

And Atlanta won their division 12 times during that period and won 1 WS. I guess I am pondering why you are pondering.

I cancelled MLB.tv as I can't afford it right now, but I can't wait to sign up for it again when I do, and watch what I think will be the most fun division this year, the NL East:

-The craziness of the Marlins, with the new stadium and marketing relaunch; crazy personalities of Ozzie, Zambrano, Hanley, LoMo and Loria (as I forgot the latter making the same point in the fantasy thread) and how they will co-exist; high priced free agent acquisitions in Reyes, Buehrle and Bell; the up and coming star OF in Stanton who goes by his first name Giancarlo now instead of Mike; the star pitcher who can't stay healthy in Josh Johnson; as well as seeing just how hideous that Home Run sculpture is in motion.

-The Braves and how they will bounce back from last year's collapse; Flame-throwers in the pen with Kimbrel and Venters; hopefully a bounceback year by young phenom Jason Heyward; the last year of Mr. Larry Wayne Jones; the speed of Michael Bourn in center; whether young SS Tyler Pastornicky will be able to stick; power hitters in their prime with Uggla and McCann; a solid, deep pitching rotation; and perhaps a trip of mine own to visit friends and see a game at Turner Field.

-The Nationals, perhaps baseball's most exciting young team; Stephen Strasburg coming back from Tommy John surgery, one of baseball's most fun pitchers to watch; the acquisition of Gio and his curveball; the continued rise of young starter Jordan Zimmermann; the young star at 3rd who doesn't need the 2nd N, Ryan Zimmerman; whether Desmond can still improve at SS or they need an upgrade, and if his double play partner Espinosa can improve after a solid rookie year; good relievers at the back end of the pen with Storen and Clippard; the story of Wilson Ramos, a solid young catcher who had quite the scare in the offseason; and Bryce Harper's rise through the minors.

-The Phillies, who are aging and should face more competition in the division, but should still be favorites; another year of Halladay-Lee-Hamels; whether Utley can be healthy and stop his decline; whether Ryan Howard can bounce back from injury and be healthy sooner rather than later; whether Jim Thome can be a temporary replacement at 1B after years of being a DH in the AL; the flying Hawaiian in CF and the newcomer to Philly in RF in Pence; the changing of the guard in the pen and whether Papelbon will succeed or crash and burn; and the always exciting play of Jimmy Rollins.

-The Mets. Meet the Mets, meet the Mets, c'mon step right up and beat the Mets...

They claim to have 2.3 million tickets sold

Thanks to the Braves divisional dominance (which is often referenced as being a consecutive run starting from 1991, as if 1994 never happened).

I'm sure the exploding scoreboard was annoying and obnoxious to many traditionalists. But it only lit up and made noise when something big happened. Otherwise it didn't look that much different, other than the pinwheels.

The Marlins board is hideous all of the time, and when something happens (home run) the hideousness actually moves.

So I take it the Miami HR Machine won't be operational until April 1. Because Hanley Ramirez and a High School player have already hit HRs there, but the Machine didn't go off. The wait is killing me.

It's bad enough that it exists, but does it have to stand out there permanently? Can't it hide under the wall, then rise when a HR is hit?

I wonder if it will be booed. Vendors can make some cash if they sell "I hate the Miami HR Machine" T-shirts.

The Exploding Scoreboard wasn't/isn't hideous.

Many considered it a hideous joke in the 1960s.
