As we first told you this afternoon, Oz met again w/JR today. Deal will be made to send him to FLA. Probably prospects, not MLB talent.

No word on what the Sox might get back.

Because technically the Sox could make Ozzie manage next year and the Marlins want him. They will give up something of minimal value in return for the ability to lock him in. Ozzie gets his $10 million and his wife can shop, he can drink, and his idiot kids can remain idiots.

By Ozzie's account, he has tried. Look at what he has said over the last few weeks and specifically today. He has made every effort to get fired. If all of this is true, the Marlins are sending nothing of value. And really, they shouldn't.

It's the social media age. Bargaining for contracts publicly is a tool now used by everyone, and it's only going to get used more. If you don't like it, I would suggest finding something else to watch with your time. It's only going to upset you.

Well, atleast something good came from this year. Time to get an AL manager and start winning again. I don't care what your job is, demanding a raise when you fail at your job is bad business, and Ozzie, year after year, consistently puts himself above the team. That drove me insane. Ozzie was not Ozzie Smith, he wasn't anything near hall of fame calibur, but he thinks he was such an awesome player. He was an over rated the manager. It will be nice to start fresh.

Unless we sign LaRussa, there really isn't a manager available better than Ozzie. Combined with the reduction in payroll next year Brooks talked about, I think we're poised for a much worse year next year.

I'm as happy he's gone as much as anyone, but I really don't think leading the franchise to its first WS in 88 years is "embarrassing".

Yeah, he overstayed his welcome, did some mind-bogglingly idiotic baseball moves, really made people question his sanity this month, and his son definitely is one of the most dislikable people on the planet, but the fact is, he did help win us a World Series. For that, I will be thankful to him.

My brother won one of those charity packages a few weeks ago and tonight was his day for dinner in the club and he had some player photos with his sons. There was a ton of local and national network and radio people at the office and clubhouse.

His Sox "escort" who will remain nameless, commented that a managerial change was expected by the office staff and that "something had to give with all the tension in the clubhouse". He / she bascially confirmed it without breaking whatever supposed confidence was left.

Mixed feelings on this whole thing, but it's safe to say this happening is the only thing that made the September 2011 White Sox watchable.
CSN probably has a bigger audience now than every other Sox game they've broadcast this month.

Good for Ozzie. He'll get $10 million and a private jet. He made it clear that what matters to him is money and he is getting more. He should be approaching $50 million in career earnings solely from baseball.

I have said from the beginning that my objective standard for any Sox manager is that he must win the division at least once every three years. Winning the division merits a new three-year extension. By this standard, Ozzie should be gone after failing to win the division in 2011.

Still, the prospect of Ozzie no longer managing the Sox makes me sad. In 1987 I won a drawing to throw out an opening pitch. I threw it to Ozzie, he autographed the ball, and I still have the photo of me, my dad, and Ozzie. Since then I've always had a soft spot for Ozzie, and even though I have been critical of many of his decisions and many things he's said, as a Sox fan and an Ozzie fan I have rooted for him to succeed.

Good riddance! Worst managed Sox season in my 40 years of following the team. Guillen and his family can be Florida's problem now.

I appreciate the good things that Guillen has done for the organization, but he has only himself to blame for sullying his reputation on the South Side.

Thanks for the best October of my life Oz (and my families), will always be eternally grateful for the ring & trophy you brought to our city. I am relieved, but also sad, like when a pet passes away. :(:

I too, would and will give him a standing ovation if I get the chance. It is time for a change, and am glad this soap opera is concluding. Time to start anew. I am excited for the future.

Agreed.

Last inning, I heard a faint "Good Bye Ozzie" chant on the broadcast. :(:

As much as it was beyond time for this to happen, I sure wish people would give him a "Thank You Ozzie" instead tonight.

This whole thing is just sad. I had more fun as a Sox fan in the last eight years than I had in the previous forty, but it's over. What made him endearing as a winner made him grating as a loser.

Paraphrasing another poster, when it was good it was wonderful, but when it got bad it was really bad. Painful, actually, after all the promise of a post-2005 contender.

Thanks, Ozzie. I mean that.

Yep, well said.

This is probably a little tougher for the longtime fans because we remember Ozzie the player as well as Ozzie the manager. I watched a lot of Sox baseball back in '85 when Ozzie was a rookie and next to Fisk, he was my favorite player on the team. Lots of energy, very feisty, but as a manager I think that can lead to bad things sometimes if not channeled properly.

Yes it was time, but it does suck that it had to end this way.

Thanks for 2005, Ozzie!

Walker staying? Cora? I wonder if it will be a total house cleaning.

I was just sent a text from my buddy working the game tonight that the rumor among the Sox employees is that every coach is gone except for Cooper and Baines.

According to Cowley's article Coop was the only coach offered an extension for 2012.

I don't see why Baines should be gone, but only because I'm not sure what he does besides coaching first base.

Baines also predates every other coach in his history with the franchise.

It's an odd mix of relief and sadness for me. And an eagerness to hear the parting shots from both sides, which will bring a bit of levity to the whole thing.

I think that will be the long-term sentiment (thank you). But it's tough to muster up those words with how Ozzie has acted the last few weeks. I am very thankful for 2005 and will generally cheer Ozzie when he makes appearances on behalf of the White Sox and that team, but he has been a complete asshat for some time now.

The thing that's dumbfounding me is how Ozzie said he won't honor the final year of his contract if he didn't get an extension. This, after one of the worst managerial seasons by a Sox manager in quite some time and an extremely disappointing season. Hey Oz, go **** yourself.

If Ozzie indeed is gone, I agree with the sentiment that KW needs to make the right hire, and that he needs to make some moves to improve the roster while simultaneously making the necessary payroll adjustments.

Indeed. Williams is the one who put this blight together. He's lucky to get out of this with his job.

I haven't posted since the ASB, watched some games but this whole season has been a train wreck. Crazy way to end the season and Ozzie's career with the White Sox.

Ozzie clearly wanted out and I would say that the die was cast sometime during the 1st half of this season.

Lots of if's IMO, if Dunn/Rios hits and if Peavy stays healthy does this happen? KW needs to hire someone fresh and not an re-tread.

It seems plausible that:

1. Ozzie takes Cora to Miami.

2. Cooper remains as pitching coach.

3. Cox is out.

4. Baines and Walker remain in the organization in some capacity.

Disagree. That 2005 team was the quintessential example of a GM aggressively filling holes. We needed a catcher, we signed AJ. We needed a second baseman, we signed Iguchi. We needed a leadoff hitter, we traded for Pods, and picked up a reliable bullpen arm in Vizcaino in that deal. We needed another starter, we signed El Duque. Magglio was told to walk and a MORE than suitable replacement was signed in Jermaine Dye.

That one offseason of moves trumps Guillen's managerial career. Kenny Williams was way more instrumental to the 2005 championship than Ozzie Guillen was.

Why dump Cox? I'd keep him around. He hasn't done anything wrong as far as I'm concerned. But maybe I'm just saying that because I got his autograph last year and is very enthusiastic about the game.
