As of today, Matt Kemp is 3 points away from leading the NL in Batting Average, which would put him in position to win a Triple Crown for the first time since Carl Yastzremski in 1967. Meanwhile his teammate, Clayton Kershaw, is leading the NL in Wins, Strikeouts, and ERA, putting him in position for the pitching Triple Crown. There are still plenty of reasons to be excited about baseball with a week left!

It's interesting that they both are having fantastic years with all of the turmoil surrounding the team's finances and leadership. Whoever controls the team will hopefully build around both of them.

This has received no play at all. This must be the most under-the-rader triple crown chase of all time. I had no idea Kemp was that close.

Me either.

I guess that's the price they pay for playing on the wrong coast. It's a shame, particularly in Kemp's case considering the NL hasn't had a Triple Crown winner since 1937.

If these guys were on the Yankees or Red Sox (or perhaps the Cubs), this would be hyped to death in the media.

Heck, if this was going on with Red Sox players, Ken Burns would be working with PBS or HBO to make a documentary about this!

This pretty much a nonstory now as Kemp in 3rd for batting average 9 points behind Ryan Braun.

9 points can be made up in 3 games, although it's not likely, but still being 1, 1, and 3 in the Triple Crown categories is worthy of almost no mention whatsoever. I didn't know Kemp was doing so well until last night, either.

Kemp 1 for 1 with a 3-run dinger so far tonight. So far so good.
