Yahoo has published this article. I find it interesting that six of the top 12 are MLB franchises (including the top five), while there are only two NBA franchises in the top 12 (I thought there would be more):

Taking only one year (2001) and comparing it to 2010 seems like a flawed way to determine which teams are losing the most fans.

A couple of those teams are ones that had new or very new stadiums in 2001. Of course Pittsburgh's attendance was great in 2001 since that was PNC Park's inaugural season. But their problem is 19 straight losing seasons. Safeco Field was still fairly new in '01 and the M's won 116 games that year. They're now a very mediocre team. Their attendance went down? Shocking!

It's the economy as much as anything. A lot more people have a LOT less money to spend on entertainment than they did in 2001.

The economy has a lot to do with with the drop in attendance but looking at this list, having a losing team adds to it.
