His first win was in 1992.

The man has done everything asked of him...starter, relief, mop up.

Gave up the homer that won NYY the pennant in 2003...but the following year took the mop up role in Game 3 of the ALCS that allowed Boston to reset against NY.

The man is there for any New England charity that asks..

The man is a survivor and is simply beloved in New England.

Nice guy. But arguably the worst 200-win pitcher of the modern era. And a fun story when he was with the Pirates.

Weak argument......they could've had Johnny Damon & Manny pitch that mop-up time in a blowout, same difference. From all accounts he is a good guy, but again....meh.

Yeah, but you're forgetting that he pitches for BOSTON. That alone makes everything he's done that much more important and impressive.

Definitely the luckiest, cool a ****ty pitcher hung around long enough to win 200 games because he's had a great offense behind him for much of that time. If he pitched anywhere else, he'd have washed up in the gutter years ago. WHAT A STORY.

I appreciate Wakefield for the fact that Freddy outpitched him in Game 3 of the 2005 ALDS.

I love the knuckleball. When it is working it is just awesome watching hitters flail helplessly. Plus, when its not working it usually ends in a loss for the redsox which is also enjoyable.

I wish there were more knuckleball pitchers.

If he'd have done this with the White Sox ESPN would have brought it up after highlights of the Astros game.
