6 weeks to go and the wild card in both leagues are all but a lock.

Unless something changes we really only have 2 divisions in play...

This all but assures Bud will get his way

And short of a plane crash the Red Sox and Yankees will be guaranteed locking up two of the five A.L. spots (40% for those of you scoring at home) basically for the foreseeable future.

Oh joy!

Lip you forget that all the wild card will be is a one game play in.

That in theory levels things out.

That's really stupid to have five teams make the playoffs, and just because the two best are from the same part of the country, one of them gets penalized.

They should eliminate divisions, play a balanced schedule, and seed the top-5 in the right order. The actual top-3 teams would get a bye, and the actual 4th and 5th best teams would play to get in.

Would that mean the Yankees and Red Sox would be 1-2 this season? Yes, but it doesn't mean it would be like that every year.

It just makes no sense to have teams play for six months, be one of the top two, and then tell that team, "you weren't good enough because your team is located here and not there."

At least right now, the wildcard team can be penalized but they're still one of four and they have to win just many games as the other three to move on in the championship series.

I'd much rather see the Royals and Mariners in a one game playoff than the Red Sox-Yankees every single year.
