The Sox were 52-53 going into today's action with a .495 winning perecnentage and are in third place in the Central division.

Going into the days action on July 31, 1997 the Sox were 52-53 with a .495 winning percentage and were in third place in the Central division.

There are a couple differences, though. The Sox had played more games (102 to the Sox' 105) than first place Cleveland in 1997, while first place Detroit have played more than the Sox up to this point (107 to the Sox' 105), while in 1997 52-53 was seveth best in the American League, while this year, 52-53 in ninth overall in the American League.

Something to think over.
