This game was not fun to watch in the early innings, but then:

- AJ seems to always get the big hit/homer in big games. :) I love AJ Pierzynkski!!

- Gavin + Sox bullpen = Awesome!!

- White sox win, oh yeah baby!! :bandance:

Nelfox02
07-29-2011, 10:33 PM
not looking good early as Wakefield and the knuckle were very effective....but Gavin was huge tonight, we actually manufactured a run, and Gavin was terrific tonight

Game seemed to turn when Gavin got Youk in that bases loaded spot......

Big Fly by AJ, darn exciting

Get one of the next two---stay with Det during these 2 series, and then let see if we can finally turn the tide against Minn next weekend

enough thinking ahead tho....great win tonight, keep pace with DET and pick up a game on Cle......

The Sox are making it extra hard on Kenny...

Is this another year where we will compete against the powerhouses only to go to Baltimore and get pummeled in August?

I sure hope not.

Great win tonight. Keep on rolling.

Gavin, Matt and Sergio were outstanding. Wakefield was tough, but a little small ball for 1 run - and then AJ coming through with the 2-run HR - got 'er done. Very nice!!!

(Keep Carlos, Kenny...I think you're gonna need him.)

Great win. Gavin was great, AJ came through big, and the bullpen held it down. The home plate umpire was brutal, but the Sox overcame that. Now let's break through that .500 "glass ceiling"! :gulp:

Great win and I don't want to be a downer, but you know what would really help this team??? Scoring runs.

We won against the other day against Detroit 2-1 and today 3-1. This can't last. I keep waiting for the offense to get on a hot streak. I've seen less talented teams have at least a couple of big winning streaks during the course of a season. I keep hoping we get ours soon. But it won't happen until the offense starts clicking.

IOW, is it like every other year? We're the epitome of a team that plays to the level of its competition, which happens when you have a lot of talent but don't always play solid fundamental baseball.

Isn't this the point in the season where Lou Brown put up the cardboard cutout of Rachel Phelps? Maybe the Sox need to put up a picture of Reinsdorf. 36 more wins!!

with this win Floyd was great. It is tough to get Bosox hitters off balance like that. Then it was time for the fuego with Thornton and Santos. Got a little nostalgia with the AJ game winner. Hope we get to the same result.......Go Go Sox!

We usually hit Wakefield better than that but the butterfly was dancing tonight. Santos had almost no control of the slider, didn't matter, but get it back anyway, kid. Two pitches are better than one. Hear that, Matt? Jarrod Jump-On-The-Spot, love that name. Gavin, when you throw like this, Ace, Ace, Ace.

The Red Sox are only .500 vs. the Central this year. They've torn up their own division, going 28-12 vs. the East.

How people forget that that team started the season 0-6 and 2-10. Since then, they're 62-30.

That was nice, quick work of the Red Sox tonight. AJ has been hot lately and I had no idea Gavin's career numbers against Boston were so good. It'll be a tough match-up tomorrow, but we've played well lately. I can only hope to be optimistic.

It seemed real empty and full of alot of Red Sox fans. Most of the upper deck was pick wherever you want to sit, lower bowl down the lines was filled but bleachers had some spots in the back. Nonetheless, great game great win!

This totally would have been a game we lose earlier in the season. Opposing pitcher dominant out of the gate usually meant doom but these days the Sox seem to have a little more fight in them. The knuckler was dancing all over tonight and the ump was calling an insane K zone for most of the game but the Sox found a way. Back to .500 again. Is it ok to at least dream of us being that team that gets hot in the second half? The pitching is October worthy and has been for most of the season.

When you have premier pricing the same week as a half-price Monday game, coupled with being surrounded by the most obnoxious fanbase in baseball, it's not really a surprise.

Hmmm, besides the Yankees and Cubs the BoSox are easily the biggest draw. 27k in virtually perfect weather is a joke.

It was For Your Love, by the Yardbirds. I cheered for your kid because, as an old fart, I wanted to hear that song!

Yes, Wake's knuckler was dancing, as it looked like Salty caught about 50% of them. Strike zone appeared to be crazy high tonight, too. TV watchers, was that the case?

As my son said, "The Sox actually manufactured a run", to which I replied, "And we were here to see it", for JP's bunt / sacrifice / wild pitch / PK's sacrifice fly score. It was also looking like that wild pitch would define the extent of the Sox offense until AJ parked one into the RF seats.

Yes the ump was pretty bad. High and way inside on lefties. Wakefield benefited most but Gavin went in on lefties too when he saw what the ump was giving. Lots of bad balls/strikes lately it seems?

Anyway, Sox have given up only 25 runs (total) in the 13 games since the break. Phenomenal.

He's not that been that great vs. us either, going 2-3 lifetime with a 5.94 ERA. Tons of walks against us for some reason (19 in 36 1/3, with only 28 K's).

Humber needs a strong outing again, and Ozzie needs to beware of him hitting the wall. With 7 arms in the pen now, they need to keep an eye on Humber's pitch count. His BAA really starts going up after he gets to 75 pitches.

Not to mention that this is a team that still hasn't been over the .500 mark since April.

About the game: Wakefield's pitches were really dancing so I can see why the Sox had only three hits. But the offense is still an issue. Still waiting for the bats to come alive. The pitching has carried the team.

Great win against the hated Red Sox.
Another great performance by Floyd, Thornton and Santos.
The only question is; when is this team going to start to hit the ball? Its hard to win games when you only get 3 hits. It looks like the pitching staff has come to the realization that they really have to be stingy because we can only score 3 runs a game, if that.

Great game Gavin, AJ, & bullpen!

No no no I would hate that, but there has to be reason involved. Over the long haul a 3-3 record and an overall record of 6-4 on this brutal home stretch is really really good and you have to be content with that. I would love to see the Sox massacre their way out of this home stand but there are a lot of games to play and the White Sox have a shot.

My magic number is 90 wins and the Sox only need a 38-20 mark the rest of the way to achieve that. It's not a mark a winning baseball team can't achieve. Lets see if they will make it happen.

If a team is bad offensively, and the Sox are, there is no need to "balance out" anything. The numbers are what they are.

Of course the numbers are what they are but it cannot be predicted what will happen. You've chosen your attitude but there is no need to try to deny me mine, is there? Baseball is a streaky sport and I believe you were one of those saying how bad Pierre was earlier in the year as if he was always going to be that bad.

Yes, correct.... it is certainly not bound to happen, and I never said an extended streak. We do not need an extended hitting streak. We just need the hitting to wake up a little, not wildly, just enough to win low scoring games because that is what we are usually involved in it seems to me.

Although it is certainly not bound to happen it is just as certainly not impossible for the hitting to find a bit of a groove. It might be extraordinary if it did but I have seen far too many extraordinary things happen to rule this one out. That and the fact that I prefer to live in hope.
