View Full Version : Cubs On Verge Of Divisional Title Run

Sure the Cubs are 42-62, 20 games under .500, 13.5 games from first place & trailing the division leaders 13 games in the loss column but according to Mike Quade (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0727-cubs-brewers-chicago--20110727,0,873608.story) the Cubs could quickly be right back in the race for the NL Central Title. Never mind that to win 87 games the Cubs would have to go 45-13. Heck, even to finish at .500 they'll have to go 39-19, according to my math that's .672 baseball the remainder of the season.

Mike Quade, don't bogart that ...

What else is Mike Quade supposed to say? I hate these guys and they have stolen my life long love affair with baseball?

Exactly!

First thing Quade don't say something stupid like that, "Well we could win 100 games if we go 58-0 the remainder of the season." Better to say nothing than to offer that type of Cubbie KoolAid.

I can tell you this, if the situation were reversed and Kenny Williams or Ozzie Guillen offered up that type of tripe not many Sox fans would defend it and certainly not me.

The Sox could go 162-0, all shutouts with 12-0 scores and there would still be more than one WSIer calling for Ozzie, Kenny and Greg to be fired because "they're idiots."

With the Cubs so bad this year and the media not really paying attention to them, I have missed threads like these.

And I'm sure Mike has been much more candid with his players in private. Frankly, it'd be unprofessional to throw guys under a bus publicly like that. Remember the uproar over Carlos Zambrano's comments earlier in the year?

Oh, I doubt it. He seems to be very much focused on staying friendly with Demp, Cassie, Rammie, Fukie, Fonzie and Marm. It's a total clown show and he's in the middle of it.

They are the second worst team in baseball. Pretty hard not to be a clown show!

I don't read Steve Rosenbloom much but he was spot on with this (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosenblog/chi-the-truth-about-sox-honesty-and-cub-delusions-20110713,0,6029944.column).

I don't even have to read it to know he's not. Rosenbloom is never right about anything ever. He's a Class A asshat. The fact that he has a prominent place in the Sports Section of the city's best newspaper is embarrassing.

You are right but Rosenbloom got this one comment spot on. Give that link a click and read this one. I'd post his direct, brief comment here but apparently that's not allowed. Rosenbloom wrote about Sox honesty and Cubbie delusions.

Rosenbloom wrote about Sox honesty and Cubbie delusions. I don't know if I'm not supposed to like Rosenbloom but I liked the comment you refer to. I noticed a dichotomy in the fan bases at ages 6, 7 and 8. Even then rooting for the Cubs seemed so unnatural.
