Nothing for sure yet?
The Mets would get a minor league prospect who people in th local sports media were insisting was untouchable. Frankly, I'm not sure I would have agreed to the trade because Beltran won't sign an extension.
If Beltran has any sense, he will accept the trade. The Giants are headed to the postseason this season with or without him. Beltran would have an opportunity to drive up his value in October.
The Giants got a lot out of Ross and Burrell last year, and Ross paid off big dividends in October. This trade certainly would make the Giants tougher as they try to repeat.

The prospect in question from the Giants is Zack Wheeler, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2009 draft. He projects as solid two, with a mid-to-high 90s fastball and excellent curveball. His changeup seems to need work, with his mechanics being a potential issue down the line.
All in all, the Metropolitans did good to put in salary for this kid. If they bring him along, he's exactly what they need behind Pelfrey and Santana.
Beltran shouldn't have signed an extension because he will command a lot more on the marketplace if he has a legendary postseason again like 2004. His knee is an issue in the field these days, but if he can get out there, he'll mash.

Giants are my favorite NL team...I am liking that Franchise series on Showtime this year. They are a classic NL team, pitching, defense and no offense...but that wins in the playoffs. Last nite vs Philly in Philly was a typical game...2-1 Giants win with Cain pitching great.
Be interesting to see if Beltran can be the Cody Ross of last year. I think the Giants will be in the NLCS...the pitching duels with Philly will be epic.
If they meet the Sox in the World Series.....Go Sox!!
