Very cool. I think I'll go to game just for that. Hope it's a sell out for the big guy.

Any guesses on the image?

I'd like something like this:

I thought everyone know about that.
They are also giving away a replica statue to the first 20,000 fans.

I will be there as part of a patio party.

I'd hope for something more in mid swing like the second picture above. One with his exaggerated back foot lift would be cool.

This is on the one weekend of the year that I will happen to be back in Chicago. Hmm....

I'll say this: the loudest crowd I have ever heard at US Cellular Field was when Frank Thomas went out to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Game 1 of the 2005 ALDS.

I've had the fortune to attend many great moments in White Sox history: Beurhle's perfect game, AJ's walk-off against the Dodgers, and every 2005 home playoff game except the PR grand slam/Podsednik walk-off one (which I concede is a major omission). But only once have I been completely unable to hear Gene Honda because of all of the cheering, and that was for Frank Thomas.

Very cool post. That is quite a set of memories. For me, the loudest crowd noise might have been the Ventura Grand Slam when Frank bounced him on his shoulder afterwards which has been shown on replays for over a decade. The other was the Blackout game. WOW. But the loudest, and it doesn't even come close were those fighter planes on the flyover that felt like it was going to take the roof off.

Edit: I think it would be really cool if statue was a really "big frank". He has meant a lot to so many sox fans and this organization. I will be pissed off if he is not a first ballet guy, although I think the writers would love to make a "clean" statement.

Yeah, the blackout game was another one that I missed because I was away at school at the time. There's no way I would have not been there had I been in Chicago.

One year, on the 4th of July, I was late to the ballpark and was in the Gate 5 bridge over 35th street when the fighter jets came over. I think there was some kind of reverberation in the closed environment of the bridge, because I was hit with a wall of sound (and it took me a while to figure out that it was jets and not the apocalypse).

The Sox website shows this as the statue given out to fans:

Obviously tough to tell what it's going to look like, but that pose doesn't exactly scream "Frank Thomas" to me.

I'm guessing/hoping that the picture is just a generic placeholder and they didn't want to post what the statue actually looks like.

Big Hurt is already in town!

Please Kenny, ask Frank to sit down and talk to Dunn about the mental struggle of being a DH.

Talking to Rios wouldn't hurt either.

I would sit Rios in an interrogation room alone and cut the lights,

when the lights come back on Big Frank would be standing right behind Rios and proceed to slap him silly around the room for being such a big bust.

Just like how Batman did to the Joker in that scene from The Dark Knight.

I'd like one where he initially gets in his stance. Elbow up. eyes locked on pitcher, almost a snarl on his face.

The statue is an honor, no doubt about it.

What I want to know is, can Frank put his uniform back on and hit for the team?

They could sure use him right now.

Congratulations, Frank, you're the best hitter I've ever seen wear the Sox uniform.

You're not that far off. I read somwhere that the statue is patterned after a homerun swing of Frank's from July 23, 2002. That was the day that Frank hit a 495 foot homerun off Johan Santana, which at the time was a stadium record.

Of course the great Joe Borchard later topped that with a 500+ foot bomb.

I think Frank's statue could hit for a higher average than either Rios or Dunn.

He's talking about the real statue, not the toy that was handed out at the gate.
