This homestand is going to be THE turning point to the season. Good or bad. The deadline is almost here, the 1st place Tigers are in town, followed by the beasts from the AL East. Time to find out if the Sox are contenders like we thought or pretenders as they have played most of the season.

What if we finish the stand 6-4 and, like, 3 games back? Still a turning point?

I think it's big, just saying.

This scenario would put us past the deadline, negating any chance of making a move, but what happens if the Sox sweep or convincingly win 2 of 3 from Detroit, and then stumble against BOS & NYY.

Would we know any more than we know now? I think we all know the Sox are not the class of the AL, but could they be the class of the AL Central? Sure.

What if the inverse happens?

This team is so maddeningly inconsistent I could see them going anywhere from 7-3 to 2-8 in the next 10.

It really sounds like Edwin is going to be traded no matter the outcome of these final few games before the deadline. The Sox have a glut of starting pitching and Kenny is going to take advantage of the market.

I'd be willing to bet it is the market that takes advantage of Kenny. :D:

Too bad those attempts lately have all been failures.

Hey maybe this year will be different. We can only hope.

I think the next 5 games will decide if KW unloads at the deadline.

agree---that is why if you are DET you really want to take it to the Sox right here, because you have a chance at putting them down for the count....

Tonight is critical---the Sox really really need this game.

This is the most pumped I ve been for a Sox game in a long time......

I really don't know. It seems like we've made statements like this on multiple occasions this season. At the start of July, we all said, "These 19 straight games against divisional foes are really going to tell us a lot."

Well, these 19 games really haven't told us a lot. The Sox are still playing roughly .500 ball. They are still within striking distance, but they aren't really making a move either.

I believe it's totally possible -- maybe even likely -- the Sox go 5-5 on the 10-game homestand and come out the other side five games back.

And we'll be right where we are now in terms of our thinking, just with 10 more games off the schedule.

No I think if the Sox don't win 4 of the next 5 games KW will deal at least Jackson. If they do he will almost have to sit tight or improve the club.

I might be wrong but it just "feels" like the turning point to me, good or bad. You do bring up a scenario that is certainly possible. We could go 5W-5L and the way the AL Central has been playing this year, we might be sitting in the same spot we are in now. One thing is for sure...the next 6 games before July 31st non waiver trade deadline will have some impact on whether we are buyers or sellers which can definitely shape the team for the rest of 2011 and beyond.

Certainly one of the more confounding stats associated with this team is that they are 24-21 against teams above .500 and 25-30 against teams that are at or below break even.

seems like with the exception of the final few (albeit very exciting) days of 2008 season, it has been let downs in big spots since second half of 2006. Even 2008 had some real thuds down the stretch......

Could do both...deal Jackson TO improve the club - get a player in here we need more than Jackson and his attached draft pick.

This is Cowley's pet name for Kenny Williams ever since "The Club" TV show on MLB Network. Joe firmly took the side of Guillen during the whole KW/Oz feud and gave him the derogatory name "Hollywood" around that time. Yes, Cowley is indeed an assclown most of the time.

Personally, I hope KW evaluates the club based upon the entire body of work he has seen the first four months of the season. I wouldn't change gears based upon anything that happens the next four or five days, positively or negatively.

My guess is the Sox will go either 3-2 or 2-3 the next five games -- because that is what they do.

This is Sparta?

This stretch decides the season. I said it was going to be the 19 games stretch against divisional opponents but this division is so bad that it really makes no difference. I am pretty sure we are now where we left the thing 16 games ago. Kind of crazy, but true none the less.

This stretch, however, pits us against the best in our division and the two best in the American League. The White Sox have played good teams exceptionally well this year. This, of course, makes very little sense in the context of our entire season but who am I to complain? The real question is not whether we can win or can't, but whether we can or can't win at home because we are horrible at home. Again, makes very little sense, but this team has made very little sense all year.

A 6-4 record is a good trip and leaves us at .500 entering the crucial two month stretch. We can live with a 5-5 because I can't see this division changing much in regards to landscape in the standings. At most we'll lose a game if 5-5 is our record and at best we'll gain one so no worry there either.

Sweep against the Tigers would be amazing. Establishes momentum and might get the Sox on a patented 8 or 9 game win streak which would be nuts against these teams.

No matter what though, we must keep things in perspective. If the White Sox go 9-1, and this is just hypothetically, no body should be jumping for joy as the Sox still have to beat those pesky Royals and yes the make us look like idiots Twins.

Nothing will change until we play those teams easily. until then, same garbage, different season.

Lol, well you would be odd if you did not find pleasure from such a home stand so I admit maybe I should have reworded that.

I guess my overall point was not to shout world series champions if that were to happen or anything of importance would happen.
