Rooting for an entertaining game and an AL win.

Hopefully Paul and Q help the good side.

P.S. - Did anyone else see the "Coming up next, Bob Sirott sits down with CUBS announcer Steve Stone" ad for Fox?

It is 7:46 and not a pitch yet. And they wonder why the ratings stink for this.

It was decided last year that the DH would be used in any All Star Game, regardless of venue.

So they mentioned some of the guys who didn't come but didn't really elaborate why except for the two that just had surgery. Anyone know why? The reason that should be discussed at PI or something else?

Agreed. There are a lot of players in tonight's game that I know little to nothing about. Not that that's a bad thing, but if MLB wants to attract new fans via the All-Star Game, not having the most recognizable names there in some cases doesn't help.

I don't have a problem with relative unknowns participating in this game -- if they are the best players the league has to offer. Not a lot of folks know about Pineda from Seattle, for example, but he absolutely belongs in this game. Some of these other guys, not so much.

The pitching staff trotted out by the AL tonight hardly reads like a who's who of the league's best.

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings with my friend earlier tonight and he thought it was a brilliant strategy to trot out pitchers the NLers most likely have never seen before. Obviously, it hasn't worked out the way Washington wanted it to.

Never mind that the AL has won the majority of the interleague games for 8 years in a row and the AL holds a total 1939-1773 record against the NL '97-'11.

Does he still post here? I remember him hanging around here in 03-04, making excuses for Sosa, whining, etc.

Les Grobstein (aka Grobber33 (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=1054)) hasn't posted here in a few months but has been a member since 2002. I'm a fan of Grobber. And I never listened to the SCORE overnights when they wrongfully let Grobber go. I was glad to have Grobber back on the overnights, that's the way it should be at the SCORE. Who wants to listen to some random national sports host? Not me. Thankfully the SCORE rehired Grobber. Good move on their part. Grobber should be on the SCORE as long as he wants.

All the above said, it doesn't mean I agree with everything Grobber says. I've argued with Les on the SCORE and here at WSI. But just like someone you've fought in high school, I respect Les. One of the things I tangled with Grobber about was the way he covered his eyes to the obvious about Sosa. It's not just Les, Cubbie fans in general used to berate Sox fans who pointed out that Sosa was clearly a juicer and that hated "the Sosa Show". Interestingly, now almost all Cubbie fans I know have come around to view Sosa just as us Sox fans did years and years ago. Welcome aboard Cubbie fans! What took you so long!

In the end, may Les rant on all night about his beloved losers and the NL! :o:

If you have only a 10 game separation between leagues in 252 games of interleague play, one league isn't clearly superior, especially when you have random matchups and rivalry series between teams that are at the top in the AL and bottom in NL (i.e. Texas and Houston and even the White Sox and Cubs). The Nationals actually have a winning record against the AL and a losing record against the NL.

There isn't a big difference between the leagues, top to bottom, and there hasn't been for a couple of years. The NL may even be a little better now. Maybe not. The NL probably has more of the top pitchers. But that isn't why the NL won tonight. The NL played to win. No manager who puts C.J. Wilson in to pitch in a one-run All-Star game is playing to win. If Verlander had been available and Wilson hadn't been on the roster, the NL certainly wouldn't have won so easily.

Derek Jeter didn't bother to show up. If it gave the impression that the American League didn't care, it was consistent with how most of the American League played tonight.

The gap has closed between the leagues. Just look at two of the NL's top pitchers: former AL aces Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee.
