Almost certainly the decision was made to switch from wearing your teams jersey to wearing an All-Star jersey in order to market a new product to the fans.

But does anyone buy these things!?!? They are hideous!

This marketing concept needs to be buried immediately!

I see plenty of people at the park wearing old all-star jerseys. I always see TCQ '08 and a handful of 2006 A-S jerseys at the park.

You are aware that the players will be in their normal uniforms for the game tonight, and they've had the All-Star jerseys for other stuff for years now, right? I don't even remember when they started making them, I can't remember an All-Star Game without a jersey.

I think it was in the 2000s because if you look at some of the old Home Run Derbys from the 1990s guys would just wear their BP jersey.

I agree that they are hideous and I really dislike the fact that now guys are wearing an All-Star Game hat as well as the jersey, but obviously people are buying them because they wouldn't make them otherwise.

Tonight the players will wear their team jerseys.

I like the 2006 and 2008 AS jerseys.

They were wearing them at least by 1999

1997 was the first year they were used, if I remember correctly.

I always thought those were the people who got the jerseys dirt cheap as no one wanted them.

I thought the 2003 American League All Star Jerseys were pretty nice. No loud colors or goofy logos. Just "American" on a white jersey with the team logo on the right sleeve and the All Star Game logo on the left sleeve.

EDIT: Although they didn't look good when paired with pinstripe pants.

I still have an Esteban Loaiza 2003 AL All-Star jersey shirt. It was pretty low key and classy.

For the "Futures Game"- I think the players should wear their major league team's home/away jersey (like the real All Star game)- vs. the generic "USA" or "World" jersey-

I would like it better if they wore the jersey of the minor league team they're with at the time.
