Obviously they are there because he was selected to the All-Star Game, they made their first appearance (that I noticed) yesterday... I'm guessing there wasn't time to sew the on Sunday between the announcements and game time.

My questions is... How long has this tradition been going on? I wonder why I never noticed it before.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, at the back of the neck of the jersey, where the MLB logo is, Quentin has 2 stars on either side of the logo. Here, you can see what I'm talking about in this picture:

Here's another good one that shows Quentin clearly has them and no one else does:

I noticed it on Aaron Crow's jersey before the Sox beat him.

I think it's new this year.

Yep. Stars will also be on the back of his cap tonight and the rest of the week as well.

Noticed the stars yesterday. Starling Castro of the Cubs was sporting them on the back of his jersey. I think it's something new this year. Don't ever recall seeing or hearing about it before.

Here's what I could find on the new uniform addition:

Though half of the press release is just sponsors and networks...

Well that's one way to increase jersey sales.

I noticed those when watching the replay today, too, and wondered what they were. That makes sense now.

Paulie needs a couple of those on his jersey as well...

Since this is Carlos' second appearance...is this why he has two? Would a first timer just put on one star? Or do they all have two? Thanks

Kinda small. Why not a little bit bigger?

Guess everybody gets two small stars. Why not one BIG star. ...It could go over the MLB logo on back..lol!

LOL...I doubt MLB would approve of that. I wonder if Konerko gets stars on the back of his uniform this weekend after he wins the final man vote.

Cubs jerseys should have tiny "L" flags on theirs.

As was the jersey of Cubs manager Mike Quade, inexplicably selected for the NL All-Star coaching staff.

In 2008, Carlos Quentin looked like he was going to a MVP type player. Then he hurt himself and hasn't been the same since. It is great for him that he is an all-star, but it is disappointing that he has not been able to be the great player we thought he'd be.

I read that they had All Star patches also on their caps. Overkill IMO.

Are they only wearing these until the actual game or is this for the rest of the year? I'd say the former.
