No surprise about Danks. I figured Infante would get the call, but I guess Santiago is regarded well. Even though I don't know much about him.

John Danks to 15 day DL with oblique strain. LHP Hector Santiago contract has been purchased from Birmingham.

79.1 IP, 70 H, 29 BB, 73 K

He developed a screwball this year which he attributes to his recent success.

Any idea why the SOX went with Santiago? He has only made 6 starts in AA, all the rest was in A. I suspect he won't pitch much, but it is still an interesting move.

That's the name their finger landed on while their eyes were closed

I figured Pena would come back. He must just have nothing this year.

He still has injury issues.

Because Infante would make sense

Assuming a 5 man rotation until Danks comes back- we now have 4 lefties in the bullpen- with only Bruney from the right side after Crain and Santos? Maybe if he's a screwball pitcher than means he effective at getting righties out- but it sure seems like the mediocrity of our farm system is completely exposed.

Don't you know? The Sox front office makes moves designed to stir the pot at WSI, not to improve the team. They find it very entertaining.

By the way, when he in the White Sox system, Bobby Jenks was never higher than AA.

Stirring the pot? It seems to me that WSI is rather indifferent to this call-up.

With that injury being "suckiness"

I read elsewhere that it was because the Rockies have so many left-handed hitters.

Ozzie said Pena experienced "tightness" in his forearm.

It was an honest question. I don't overreact about small moves like this.

There is obviously a reason the SOX chose to call up Santiago and I was curious if anyone had more insight.

I wondered about the move too. Hey I hope Santiago does exceptionally well but it is a bit of a head scratcher.

73 K's in 70 innings and a pitch no one else on the staff has - for what may not be that long of a stint, why not give it a whirl? Personally, I'd rather see someone like this than Harrell, who hasn't been all that impressive in his earlier callups this year.

I've been really enjoying his absence, as this bullpen has been markedly better without him.
