A month ago, when I launched a national debate by asking Sosa to disclose his knowledge about steroids, I thought it was unfair to publicly request a drug test. It didn't stop two media outlets from doing so anyway. Since then, discussion has centered on Sosa and Barry Bonds, if for no other reason than their status as top sluggers in a sport besieged by reports-- fueled by former and current major-leaguers--that stunning percentages of players use steroids.
