View Full Version : Stop me if you've heard this one before: Phil Rogers cluelessly comments on Sox

In his usually pointless "Morning Phil" bloggy post at the Trib's website, he talks about Mark Buehrle like he's the best thing since sliced bread, and then talks about his contract and brings up the clause that gives Buehrle an extra year at $15 M if he's traded... Of course, that expired last July when Buehrle became a 10/5 player and has full no-trade protection.

LOL!

I thought it was yet another deal where we send a quality pitcher to the Yankees for a bag of balls.

First of all, thank you for The Smiths reference. I think it's time for me to dust off my "Strangeways, Here We Come" record, and give it a few spins.

Secondly [and more importantly] I've observed that incompetence is usually punished in the universe. It is therefore likely that the newspaper industry is toast, due to this type of incompetence.

Did Rogers use to be good? For some reason I remember liking him at one time, but maybe that was before I heard more from him.

MB is not worth that much of a salary commitment anymore.

I've found that it's usually rewarded.

Only if the incompetent person is also a yes man.

And MB is the greatest thing since sliced bread! :D:

+1. As much as I love the guy, he has not been worth the extension he signed in 2007 and has been quite pedestrian.

The only consolation is that he has been there to take the ball every fifth day.

Apparently Phil was correct in his original contention:

He mentions WSI in the story.

Show us your work, Phil.

Here's mine: http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-white-sox.html

Trade escalator only valid until July 15, 2010, his 10th anniversary in the Major Leagues.

I trust Cots about, uh, 10,000x more than you. Basically, everyone who has been following the Sox since last yalready knows this. At least we know which horse will cross the finish line last.
