Per MLB Network. "Slight" strained oblique per MRI. Twinkies expect it to be a short stint on DL.

If he has 600 home runs how could he NOT be a first ballot guy?

Thome is 4th all-time for left-handed power hitters, behind Bonds, Ruth and Griffey. He needs 39 to pass Griffey (probably a longshot).

But here's the impressive stat- if you look at the career leaders right now in homers from the leftside, there isn't anyone even close to Thome's numbers. Ryan Howard is 31 years old and only has 260 homers. Dunn is at 357 and also 31 years old, but I'm not sure what his longevity will be like. Prince Fielder has 199 homers at age 27. After that, there's nobody. Great lefthanded power hitters just don't exist anymore.

There are some good lefties out there (Hamilton, Votto and Dunn) but you are right I don't think any of those guys are going to approach 600 home runs. The ball MIGHT have been a bit more lively back then, but really Thome was just a great hitter and like Frank he is over shadowed because some guys were putting up numbers that were just not human, we now know why and how they did that.

I don't see how Thome isn't a 1st ballot HOF. I think the real question is does he get voted in with 90+% or are there enough simpleton jackasses in the BBWAA that aren't going to vote for him?
