This was agreed to as soon as the trade was completed but Boston waited so they wouldn't have to pay that luxury tax. There was a lot of shady business in that trade.

Agent and player were happy about it....any team could have done the same thing.....

Yeah, plus they avoid the tax for one season, yet somehow, I have faith the Red Sox will still be well over that threshold for 7 of the 7 years Adrian is on the team.
