The projected world series champion Red Sox looked far from that in their opening series at the Ballpark in Arlington.

I think the "experts" forgot that you need pitching to win it all.

Granted, it was one series. However, I don't think you can overlook the less-than-exciting pitchers Boston's rotation has in Lackey and Matsuzaka (who hasn't even pitched yet).

I do see the Red Sox eventually winning the AL East as despite their "meh" rotation, I think it's far better than the Yankees and I really don't like the Rays bullpen. However, once the playoffs do roll around, I think the Red Sox will have a fairly quick exit if they don't acquire another starter.

I think it's more of a reminder that you can't get away solely on hitting. The Rangers learned that for a while and now finally have a respectable starting rotation with a lock-down closer.

Like I acknowledged, it is only 3 games. I just felt that it's a reminder that you need pitching to win, and the Red Sox rotation isn't particularly scary with the exception of Lester.

I think Lester and Buchholz are good young pitchers. However, the Boston rotation is overrated by media types who have inflated views of John Lackey and Josh Beckett. Both those pitchers are in decline, IMO. Papelbon and Jenks are also in decline, IMO.

I wonder who Boston will take with the 1st pick in the 2012 draft.

I agree that the demise of the Red Sawx is premature, but I disagreed with the vast majority of people that the rotation would be vastly improved with health. Their rotation is extremely suspect and they'll need to slug their way to the playoffs and World Series. That may very well happen, but their SP is very weak.

Sorry, Fenway, but I'm loving every minute of this.

The self-crowned "Kings of Baseball" haven't even gotten a chance to sit on their throne before Texas came over, bitch-slapped them and said "Hey, wise guys, this is ours still!"

Then, battered and beaten, they come to the peasant village of Cleveland, where they expect to impose their "authority", and the peasants just laugh at them and said "Who do you think you are? Get out of our town!"

Now the 2011 World Series Champions are 0-5, wondering what with all their payroll increases, media hype, and influx of premium talent for minimal prospects, where it all went wrong.

Schadenfreude as it may be, this brings me great joy to see the "world's most entitled fans" see things not go exactly as the Boston Champions claim as such.

Can a team be mathematically eliminated before the home opener? Good Gawd!!!!

NESN put tonights game in Cleveland on the phantom NESN Plus over a Broons game which meant nothing.

Is tomorrow afternoon a must win in April? - Yes because then they go home to play NYY with Lackey.

This could get ugly quickly :(

I think they'll still win the division. The rotation and 'pen aren't great, but the starters still better than the Yankees. The Rays are struggling just as much as Boston, but I don't know if they have enough this year. I think the O's and Jays are still pretenders, too.

If it were the Twins or Tigers, you would be right. But Cleveland is not going anywhere so we pull against Boston because of their fans--esp the post-2003 Red Sox Nation types--and because of the Bermans and Simmons and Peter Kings.

I wanted the Red Sox to beat down Cleveland. I'd rather not have more competition in the AL Central. I agree that the Tribe is a pretty big longshot but stranger things have happened in baseball. The Rays were picked by many to finish in last place in 2008 and won the AL Pennant. I wouldn't have minded if the Red Sox knocked them down to the AL Central division basement where they should be. Instead, their ineptitude has given a bit of momentum to the Indians who will be getting Grady Sizemore back soon for even more of a boost. Then again, I don't share the extreme Red Sox hate that some on this board have so maybe I'm thinking this one too logically.

As someone else mentioned above, there is a much greater chance that Boston will compete with the Sox for the wild card than Cleveland will compete with anyone for anything.

Absolutely, in fact, prior to them winning it all in 2004 I never really had any problem with the Red Sox or their fans and in fact kind of liked them (though I never had any real interactions with them either). After 2004 they became the most insufferable fans on the face of the earth, Fenway does not belong into the category as the rest of "the Nation."

Well, you should feel dirty. It's the Yankees. The only time I ever root for them is when they are handing out their whooping on the Twins in the postseason and even then it is an empty feeling when they win. One thing to keep in mind Fielder, is that a chunk of these so called Red Sox "fans" at The Cell are actually Cubs fans wearing their Red Sox gear. I can't tell you how many Cubs fans I know have an inexplicable secondary rooting interest in the Red Sox. In fact, you'll see many of them sporting the "B" hat with the Cubs jersey combo in the Wrigleyville area. In fact, I was at a White Sox/Red Sox game at The Cell a couple years ago and after the Red Sox had hit a HR, this guy in front of me started taunting the White Sox fans in his section by lifting up his Red Sox jersey to reveal a Cubs shirt underneath. I'm not saying all of them are Cubs fans but there is a big chunk of them that come out for that series at The Cell.

I don't think Boston will do anything major - offense is set, could use another starter but Theo will not give up prospects easily.

White Sox simply have to play a little better - only 4 behind in the loss column.

The Twinkies are the team to worry about - they will have large crowds at Target and they have made up a lot of ground.
