This morning I went through my usual Opening Day ritual before leaving for work. Every year on O.D. I go through the house and make sure a pocket schedule is in each room...especially the bathrooms. Then I turn on the TV's and radios so that the White Sox opener is broadcast throughout our house, even though no one will be home. Happy Opening Day to one and all!

Is anyone else here recording the game, imposing a "media blackout," and watching it after work?

It'll take a ton of will power not to check on the score but I can't think of a better Friday night than sitting with my 5-year old and watching the game with maybe a pizza and beer in front of me.

"The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings...You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive..."

Bart Giamatti penned those words, and though the point he went on to make had to do with the heartbreak of October, his opening lines say it about as well as can be said.

Man, it feels good. Let's play ball.

I've got the butterflies already.

Interesting note: While watching the Yankees opener yesterday the announcers mentioned that the Yankees hadn't lost a home opener since 1982. Ahhh...I remember it well, we swept them in a rare opening day double-header. It was our first year in the new unis (three stripes across the chest with SOX block lettering) and we started the season 8-0 before finishing 87-75. Brought back fond memories.

Anyone know if there will be some acknowledgment of the 20th anniversary of the park? I doubt there will be a sleeve patch or anything like that, but maybe something? Just wondering. The thought came to mind when I remembered the ugly 16-0 loss in our first game there ever. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago.

EDIT: Or did I just answer my own question?

MLB audio is only $19.99 a season. Might be cheaper than a portable radio.

Hmmmm... strange that they're not doing anything. Anyone at the park see anything on the field or in the concourse?

I know the park had its issues back then, and opening day was a stinker... but its a nice park now and should get a shout-out on its 20th birthday.
