I promise this will be the last day I comment on it in the baseball thread. I'm just so excited about opening day. I've been in sports hibernation since the end of the world series.

Back to REAL baseball. I gain a little bit of pleasure when I see the Red Sox pitching let them down. If they do indeed make the playoffs, I don't think their pitching is good enough for them to win it all.

The thing is they don't need him to come close to what he did last season. Say he "falls of a cliff" and only hits 30HRs, with 90RBI while batting .250 and holding down 3B for them, it's still a pretty solid signing.

Friday night was the Season opener for the Mariners in Oakland. Felix Hernandez, the reigning AL Cy Young winner was on the mound for the Mariners versus Trevor Cahill of the A's. Felix was a bit over amped in the first and the A's tagged Felix for a 2 run homer. However, that was all the offense the A's were going to get off of Felix.

Bases on how poorly, the M's were at scoring runs last year, there was a worry that those 2 runs might be enough offense to give Felix the loss. Finally though the M's were able to push a run across the plate on a bases loaded walk to former A's Jack Cust. Eric also preached patience at the plate and aggressiveness on the base paths. Both of which the M's showed in the Opener. They took full advantage of the 5 miscues of the A's, stole bases, had timely hits, and pushed across 6 runs.

Meanwhile, Felix settled into a grove and showed why he is the AL Cy Young (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AL_Cy_Young) winner. He allowed just 5 hits, no walks, and threw a complete game on just 108 pitches, of which 73 were strikes. It was a site to behold for sure.

Love that Snooki headline.
Rutgers should be ashamed of themselves.

B on T: Good to have baseball back, especially now that I have MLB.tv.
