Hey everyone, was in a discussion about gold-trimmed uniforms some teams have been wearing the year after they win the World Series. Someone posted these about the Sox in 2006 (which they did not use):

Anyone have any idea about them at all? Ever seen them before? Any stories?

He was better than Mark Teahen though.

He probably would've been better if Ozzie and the minor league staff wouldn't have screwed him up.

On topic: What teams have worn gold-trimmed uniforms the year after winning the WS? I don't remember seeing it.

The Red Sox work gold trimmed jerseys for the pregame ceremonies and then changed into the normal unis in 05 and 08. The Cardinals wore the jerseys for one game in 07, and the Phillies wore them for the first series of the season in 09. This Sox jersey looks awesome. Though I wouldn't want them to change to the gold, it would have been nice to see the Sox wear these once in 2006.

The website UniWatchblog, which is where I think this discussion is taking place, listed the Red Sox in '05, the Cardinals in '07 and the Phillies in '09 as doing it and now the Giants are too. The Yankees didn't do it in 2010 and I don't know about the Red Sox in '08. But it is starting to become a trend.

I once asked gay player for his autograph and he yelled at me because he was eating.

I think it's a nice touch on the pinstripes, but on the number, logo and lettering, it's an eyesore.

It's only worn for one game and sometimes isn't really noticeable. I was kind of hoping the Giants would break out the uniforms they wore in the 1906 home opener.

Exactly, that's the message board I frequent where the question came up. Looks like its still a mystery!

In 1906 they wore those for the entire season. That makes it even crazier.

Calling any team that wins a title in one country "World Champions" is idiotic.

Meh maybe. I was ten at the time and my Dad and his friend kept telling me to go ask for his autograph...

Calling any team that wins a title in one country "World Champions" is idiotic. There are not leagues in any other country which can compete talent-wise with MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL. This is the absolute biggest stage, and athletes come from all over the world to face the best competition here. I have no problem with it.

In 1906, there wasn't another country on the planet that could field a team to play even close to the same level. Baseball was an American sport exclusively.

There might be more to the story on the World Champions jerseys. I'm going by memory on something I read, but I think John McGraw took the Giants on tour and played a series of exhibition games around the world. The jerseys may have been an offshoot of that tour.

I wouldn't be opposed to the team that wins the year before doing this for a game - their ring day maybe?

The team could even auction the jerseys off for charity.

Why do I remember reading something once about some White Sox team back then touring Australia and/or Japan?

I wonder why the Sox didnt use these jerseys?

If anything, they could have sold quite a few in the post-championship glow.
