It is clear that the potential of a strike is hanging over the head of everyone in baseball. It is affecting potential trades, and it is keeping some players in the minors who might otherwise be brought up (e.g., Borchard). We've talked about individual players at times before on this board, but I'd like to get an idea of the lists of players (i.e., specific names) in the Sox organization will have to sit out (i.e., not be able to play in the minors) and those who will be safe (i.e., still able to play in the minors) if a strike is called?

Will have to sit:
Parque, Paul

Safe:
Borchard, Malone

I still borchard aint up because we have an overabundance of outfielders--even if Lee is traded---rowand would go to left and then borchard might come up dependoing on who we get in trade

Anyone on the 40 man roster with MLB service time will have to sit.

is crede part of the 40 man roster........

if not then i think that is why he is not up here.

ref to the trade question................. i thought someone said that mont couldn't make a trade......... but here they went and did it. so my question, why didn't we make a trade with them?

Yes Crede is on the 40 man roster.

He is not with the Sox because then they have to sit a 5 mil a year player to let him play.

Daver -- ok, so here is the 40-man roster:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/cws/team/cws_team_40manroster.jsp?club_context=mlb

The players in the minors on this list are:

Pitchers B/T Ht Wt DOB
* 55 Edwin Almonte R/R 6-3 200 12/17/76
* 49 Lorenzo Barcelo R/R 6-4 230 08/10/77
* 32 Thomas Jacquez L/L 6-2 195 12/29/75
* 57 Kyle Kane L/R 6-3 215 02/04/76
* 40 Jim Parque L/L 5-11 170 02/08/76
* 41 Mike Porzio L/L 6-3 190 08/20/72
* 51 Jon Rauch R/R 6-11 230 09/27/78
* 50 Mitch Wylie R/R 6-3 190 01/14/77
Catchers B/T Ht Wt DOB
* 61 Miguel Olivo R/R 6-0 180 07/15/78
* 27 Josh Paul R/R 6-1 205 05/19/75
Infielders B/T Ht Wt DOB
* 24 Joe Crede R/R 6-3 195 04/26/78
* 34 Jason Dellaero S/R 6-2 195 12/17/76
* 12 Willie Harris L/R 5-9 175 06/22/78

Of these, who has NOT had MLB experience and,
therefore, can still work in the minors during a
strike?

Related questions:
How are changes made to the 40-man roster?
Are there any other implications to being placed on or
taken off of the 40-man roster (e.g., must be waived or
becomes a free agent)?

That's a little too sensible for the Sox, LDF. :smile:
