View Full Version : White Sox odds in Las Vegas

Our department admin took a long weekend trip to Las Vegas, and I asked her to place a few wagers on the White Sox for me. She goofed up my request a bit, but based on the odds that I am getting, it probably doesn't matter.
My wagers ended up being $10 on the Sox winning the AL pennant and $10 on the Sox to win the World Series. (Yeah, I know I'm a high roller  )
So the odds I am getting (from the Wynn Encore, for what it's worth):

Sox to win the AL pennant: 6 - 1
Sox to win the World Series: 10 - 1

I wish I got the odds you got. I had a buddy in Vegas bet $20 on the White Sox to win the World Series at Bellagio and I got 7-1 odds.

Just checked at bodog and they're 11/1 to win the pennant and 20/1 to win the world series. $10 on each and I can be $310 wealthier in October.

I was close. I thought Vegas would go with 8 - 1 for a Sox championship.

I work at the Venetian and was going to place some bets today as well... I'll let everyone know what the odds are at the sportsbook in the Venetian/Palazzo are... I was gonna get a drink at Lagassi's Stadium as well so maybe the odds at that sportsbook are different

That has to be an overlay. If the World Series championship was decided by pure chance, 29-1 would be the correct payout. Can you put down a few quid for me?

Sorry for my lack of gambling knowledge, but can someone explain how you would collect winnings on a bet in Vegas for something like this?

I'll be heading out there in June and wouldn't mind putting a few $$ down on various events, but I don't see myself going back anytime soon.

Please, not even joking, don't ask anyone to place bets for you. You could get this site in some serious problems if it is seen as in intermediary in gambling.

Lets say that the Sox are playing the Royals and the Sox are the favorite. The money line may be listed as:
Sox -140 Royals +120 In this example, if you wanted to bet on the Sox who are the favorites you would be putting up $140 and if you win you would collect $240 giving you $100 profit. In other words, you risk $140 to make $100.
If you wanted to take the underdog Royals you would wage $100 and collect $220 if you won. This means that you risk $100 to make $120.
I think at least.

Im not a big gambler either but when I go to vegas I usually pick big underdogs to win and put 10 bucks on a few games and see what happens.

Real simple. I bet the Packers to win the Super Bowl in July. Hang onto the ticket and if the bet pays just go to UPS, or Fedex and pay to have it sent to the address listed on the back. Use registered mail so it can always be tracked and so someone has to sign for it. Wait 3 weeks...and then you have a check in the mail.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to see what the numbers are come June. Wasn't sure if it was something you had to redeem in person or not.

Each ticket will have redemption instructions printed on the back side. Follow those directions to the 't' and you won't have any problems. Most require registered mail as procedure.

I meant places to go out-- like clubs and what not.. i have nothing to do with betting and as Nellie said, also will not be placing bets for anyone just because i live in vegas. just wanted to clear that up

as for odds-- I never got to make it over there, but tonight is date night with the boyfriend and we always go to free-standing casinos for movies so tonight i'll update the odds at either the redrock or suncoast which are both free standing

I'd confirm with the sportsbook, but I'm fairly certian you can mail you winning ticket in (although there may be a limit/fee involved). I had a few football tickets from MGM and this was definitely an option, although I don't remember the restrictions.

Are Division odds out?

Twins are division favorites at +160. Sox are close behind at +175. Tigers are at +200.

FWIW Cubs are +400, which is money you will never see again.

oh okay good :)

Where are you guys staying at? I recommend Fremont street just for the experience bc its soooo cheap-- the golden nugget down there has a friggin awesome shark tank pool that you can sit out by with cheap drinks during the day.

Diablos (on the strip right across from the monte carlo, next to newyork new york) or margaritaville are my favorite "chill" places. If you wanna college atmosphere go to Blondies in Planet Hollywood

Theres a cool dueling pianos bar and an ESPN sportzone in NY, NY.. and i recommend riding that rollercoaster too --- its like $14/person but it is SICK

you can also skydive now off the Stratosphere hotel haha

Another awesome sports place is Legassi's stadium (sportsbook) in the Pallazo. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it is SO much fun :)

Keeping on topic, I plan on throwing $10 on the cubs every year to win the division and $5 to win the WS... if by some random off chance that they ever do win, that's a lot of dough in my pocket some day

I also wont bet on the white sox--- going with the whole "dont bet on your own team" thing... but I do plan on placing a few bets on individual games this year. I only have this year and maybe next left to bet on pro baseball so im gonna get my time in!

You should pick an obscure team that nobody cares about, like the Royals or Astros. Vegas lines aren't set with any historical precedent or even current season projection in mind, they're designed to even out the money amongst all teams as much as possible so the casinos minimize their risks. Even though the Cubs suck, they have a large, national following that will blindly bet on them, so their odds are usually weighed down by that.

White Sox are 25/1 to win on Ladbrokes.

Unfortunately someone in the US would be unable to bet the Sox at 25-1 at Ladbrokes.

European sportsbooks block US based credit cards and do not allow bettors from the US.

So odds from Ladbrokes and Paddy Power are useless unles you live outside the US.

Baseball is the worst game to bet on. Just too much variance for individual games.

yeah, but it gives me something to do.. ive never bet on games before and i think it might be fun... i mean, we're talking $5 a game.. not an obscene amount..

but just moving here, knowing no-one, having no friends, and my boyfriend just left for 6 months.. leaves me with not much else to do but work and watch baseball... i think it would just be kinda fun to sit at one of the sportsbooks with my iPad and watch the games Ive bet on instead of laying in my room being bored.... haha

Hey, where can you bet for the Divisions? Every time I have gone to Vegas and tried to bet for the Sox or Bears to win their respective Divisions, I find I can only bet on them to win the AL or NFC -- I've been to Venetian and Caesar's.

thats funny... i actually talked to the GM of Lagassi's sportsbook at the Palazzo tonight and he told me to bring in my ipad when i get it and drink there... he wanted to check out the 4 screen split squad mlb.tv on it.

but then again thats a celebrity chef sportsbook/restaurant so perhaps its different rules.

I also forgot to mention that I also checked the Sox odds at Mandalay Bay, which were: WS - 7/1 and AL Pennant - something like 3.4/1... very bad, IMO.

What I did find interesting however (and now regret not putting money on it there) is that they have an over/under on Sox wins on the season. IIRC, it was 85.5 (it could have been 85 or even 84.5 - either way, I thought it was low). I figured all places would have this, and when I actually went to bet (placed my bet at the aforementioned Lagassi's (Palazzo), I was told they don't have that betting option. So I got better odds at Palazzo, but didn't get to bet the over/under for the Sox season win total.
