Sox are 0-2 thus far--may I have the honor of being this season's first official Dark Cloud Thread-Starter? :D:

It's becoming painfully evident that the Sox are going to miss Mark Kotsay this year. This year's "let's have a real DH" plan looks like a total flop.

This may be selective memory, but I feel like the Sox never have good spring training records. I don't remember them ever being over .500, and usually they are well below.

Conversely, I feel like the cubs and Indians are always near the top of the Cactus standings.

I'm guessing that each team has a different philosophy on how they approach spring training games.

As for me, I didn't even realize that they have played 2 games already!

No spring game is "must win". Anytime you have AAA and lower pitchers in spring, you're gonna give up runs.

As long as everyone gets their work in, no problems.

The Sox are ruining, RUINING, Viciedo by playing him in major league spring games. He's not ready and should only play in "B" or split squad games. And it's clear that the Sox spring training disaster is a direct result of Edwin Jackson and his boat anchor salary.

You all can joke all you want about the 0-2 start, but I get tired of seeing the Sox stink it up in spring training pretty much every single year. Sometimes it can be difficult to just turn the switch to "on" once opening day is here. It is hard to recover from a slow April.

Blow this thing up! Move Beckham back to 3rd, Ramirez back to 2nd, insert Vizquel at SS, lengthen Pierzynski's career by moving him part-time to 1st, make Paulie share the DH with Teahen, Buehrle looked good at catcher in that promo spot last year so we can move him behind the plate half the time, move Dunn to LF, Pierre to right, trade Quentin, Morel, Peavy and Pena for Lee, Lidge, and Howard....

I was just having this conversation with my boyfriend last night. We decided that the Sox last had a winning spring training record in 2006. Overall, their spring records have been pretty awful, but hopefully Ozzie's new plan of playing the regulars for all nine innings toward the end of March will yield better results for the team in April.

The Sox were 14W-18L in Cactus League games in 2005 and ended up winning 99 games and a World Series. In 2006, they were 10W-19L in Cactus League games and ended up winning 90 games. In 2008, they went 11W-19L in Cactus League games, won 89 games, and the division title. Bottom line is that Spring Training games don't mean a damn thing other than getting your roster set and your veteran players their work.

I'm chill, and I'm not nervous over the 0-2 start. Just saying I'd like them to actually win for once in spring training. It can't hurt. The people cracking jokes are probably the same who make claims like:

-It's just April, and the season just started. No need to worry about a 10-15 record. Take a chill pill. The division isn't won is April.

-It's May, and with the weather getting warmer we will turn it around very soon.

-It's June, the Sox had the same record in 1983 and they won the division.

-It's July, and I don't think this team is out of it yet. We're only 6 back. With Peavy coming back to 100% we don't even need to make a trade.

-It's August, there is still a chance. Ozzie is not the problem and neither is Mark Kotsay/Dewayne Wise/terrible 5th starter/whoever Ozzie plays that shouldn't be.

-It's September, and Kenny will make the necessary moves to compete next year.

It would not surprise me if all of these examples happen during 2011. It is the same story almost every year.

But what do the New York tabloids have to say about Boston traffic and these snowmen!? I'm dying to know.

You're all good, ESPN is running a three part series on this very topic. Starts next week. Check your listings.

Fred Rogers had an apartment in New York City and a summer home on Nantucket island in Massachusetts, which is about 3 hours outside of Boston. Boston is the home of the Boston Red Sox.

I heard that on WSCR, which has four call letters, like WEEI, which is in Boston.

Anyone know Brooks' email address?

He had to change it after Oney's woman attacked him for Brooks saying that Oney was not representing the White Sox in a tasteful manner.

It's now "bbakaoneyswomansbeeyotch@whitesox.com".

Not good. Not good at all. The Boston papers are in a tizzy over what happened yesterday -

http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=310303102&teams=philadelphia-phillies-vs-boston-red-sox

Meanwhile, the New York tabloids are laughing and saying the 2011 season is all but over now.

There's some other stories in the Boston papers as well - the weather, politics, crime, human interest stories, and an article about the Boston subway. I'll post links to every single one of them too.

WEEI is lighting up saying the Crawford deal was a bad one. Curt Schilling called in to defend Theo, but then Sons of Sam Horn showed up! This might turn into a Patriots city.

on the subject of over-reacting about spring training games, i cant count the number of people in the news feed on my facebook who are FREAKING OUT about this cubs win today...

i keep seeing "isn't it crazy that a kid who was in single a hit the bomb today?"

uhm, not when a kid who finished in high-a is hitting a bomb off a kid that finished in low-a. its not like he went yard off of halladay out there.....

Even though the games don't count, who among us can honestly say that they wouldn't prefer 6-1 to 1-6?

I'm looking for reasons to be excited. Haven't seen any yet.

Ozzie himself said he wants to see improvements soon:

Don't see why this is a big deal. Spring training is the suck period before the regular season.

Remember Ozzie also said that this year he is changing things the final week of the spring. No more Double and Triple A cannon-fodder in the lineup...it's going to be the regulars, all the time to get them mentally ready to go on April 1st.

I agree with this 100%

You know something? You're right! I think we need a "fans-only" meeting to discuss the current state of the team and the direction we're heading. We need to nip this in the bud while it's still early!
