SI had faith in the 59 Sox. They only needed some power, which they added later in the year with Ted Kluzewski.

As an 8 year old growing up in the South Bend/Mishawaka area at the time, I remember quite vividly the summer of '59. The addition of "Big Klu" was eagerly anticipated and met with a great deal of elation, especially by the polish community on the west side of South Bend.

Stores were filled with Sox gear and paraphenalia and most of us forgot there was another Chicago team that played in the other league.

Lots of great memories.

After all these years the 59 team is still my favorite. They were my boyhood heroes.
Article had no mention of Bob Shaw who went 18-6 in 59 and was 2nd in wins on the Sox after Cy Young winner Early Wynn. Pierce had an off year and Lopez did not give him a start in the WS which still puts a bad taste in my mouth.

It's rather weird for me to hear someone to describe the White Sox chances as good "if only someone would start hitting some home runs", considering the last time the Sox didn't finish in the top 1/3 of the AL in that category was 1999.
