Saw him play at Wrigley in the late 50s and in the 2nd game of the 59 WS at Comiskey. Only Willie Mays is still with us of those 3 great center fielders that played in NY in the golden age, Mantle, Mays and Snider.
RIP Duke.

One of the remnants of the last great teams to play in Brooklyn.

Irony was he was a Souther California native but his career suffered when he left Ebbets Field for the Coliseum.

I'm sure the short right field porch in Ebetts Field helped Duke, his HRs dropped off by a huge margin when the Dodgers moved to LA and the big RF in the Coliseum.

Reinsdorf recalls when rookie Duke Snider lived on his block and played stick ball after Dodgers games. Reifert (http://twitter.com/InsideTheSox)

I can't go into into this forum without thinking of a song that mentions Snider and his two new york center field cohorts in the chorus. .

REINSDORF REMEMBERS THE DUKE (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2011/03/05/2011-03-05_new_atlanta_braves_skipper_fredi_gonzalez_might _have_enough_pitching_to_challeng.html?page=2)

Scroll to the end of column as JR remembers playing stickball in Brooklyn with Duke who lived nearby.
