This is a misleading title. I didn't see anything in the article to say he's officially done. All I read was, while it's not promising, there would be an update this afternoon.

But this news makes me happy.

I had feeling the ammount of innings he's pitched in his small time in the bigs would finally catch up to him. Too bad for the Cards

Never a good sign when they fly him back to home. I think they did the same thing with Joe Nathan last yr before they officially declared him out for the year.

It's not like he's been all that abused. He's 29 and has been a starter for 4 seasons, throwing about 230 innings in two of those seasons and missing about 12 starts with an injury a few years back. Last year, he averaged 101.7 pitches per start.

You can almost hand the division to the Reds. Well maybe the Brewers will give them a chase.

"My ligament is intact and strong," Wainwright said in a Feb. 10 Post-Dispatch story. "It's not like it's ready to pop."

I think it will be close between the Brewers and Reds(which is interesting, because they play each other the first series of the year). Reds have a better lineup, but i think the Brewers have a better pitching staff.

One thing I've always wondered about the 'inverted W': Why isn't it called an M?

One thing I've always wondered about the 'inverted W': Why isn't it called an M?Because it's not an M. An M has vertical "legs," an inverted W has angled "legs" (for lack of a better knowledge of what to call them; I'm sure there's a real term.)

It's not official yet, but yeah, things do look grim for him. In other news, our favorite former piranha is out for 8-12 weeks with a hernia.

I also remembered reading that he's been throwing many more breaking balls in recent seasons, which could would effect his elbow

That appears to be true. Lots of curveballs lately--almost 30% of his pitches last year.

I would have to think Jeremy Bonderman and Kevin Millwood's agent is probably getting a call from STL today. Tough break for the Cards. It's never easy to replace an ace pitcher but it is especially tough when Spring Training has already started.

With Greinke and Marcum, not to mention Prince Fielder,Ryan Braun, and Rickie Weeks,I hope the Brewers would have a say in this.

One would hope, but it takes a whole lot more than two starters and three hitters to win a ballgame. And there's no telling what happens with Prince around the trade deadline.

We don't celebrate injuries on this site. You're new here, so you probably did not know this since it's been a while since people stopped this.

I think you are really underselling this brewers team. They have three studs in Gallardo, Marcum and Grienke, Wolf as a #4 is very solid(4.17 era). The #5 will either be Narveson or if Mark Rogers can impress he might take the spot. The lineup is very strong, with Fielder, Weeks, Hart, McGehee(led the team with 104 rbi last year) and Braun all being 30 hr guys.

As for trading Prince, that will only happen if they are out of it at the All Star Break. Milwaukee has said they are quite content with taking the 2 picks for him, and moving Corey Hart to 1B. The Bullpen looks to be solid with Axford closing and Saito setting up, not to mention Braddock(2.94 era), Kameron Loe(2.78 era) and Manny Parra(2.39 ERA as a reliever) also there. Sure, Bullpens are a crapshoot, but Milwaukee has way more than 2 starters and 3 hitters.

That's only a problem for him if he believes in Karma, to be fair. But yea, generally being happy at someone else's physical pain is not cool.

I don't think studs means what you think it means.

1. An upright post in the framework of a wall for supporting sheets of lath, wallboard, or similar material.
2. A small knob, nail head, or rivet fixed in and slightly projecting from a surface.
3. a. A small ornamental button mounted on a short post for insertion through an eyelet, as on a dress shirt.
b. A buttonlike earring mounted on a slender post, as of gold or steel, for wearing in a pierced earlobe.

4. a. Any of various protruding pins or pegs in machinery, used mainly as a support or pivot.
b. One of a number of small metal cleats embedded in a snow tire to increase traction on slippery or snowy roads.

5. A metal crosspiece used as a brace in a link, as in a chain cable.

I understand exactly what the word means. You may disagree with my usage of the word when referring to the Brewers top 3 pitchers, that's a different matter.

As long as it's not Chicago (NL) that wins the division.

Me too. I'm kind of hoping that Sale starts next season, becomes a stud, and that we trade him before he gets injured. the good news is that every guy with the inverted W is not Prior or McCarthy. Wainwright made it until age 29 before he needed TJ surgery, Smoltz made it a while as well. AJ Burnett is still pitching now at age 34. The bad news about Sale is that his inverted W is more pronounced with his elbow higher above his shoulder than those pitchers. Take a look at Anthony Reyes on Chris O'Leary's site and Sale's mechanics in the thread "Ozzie's Thoughts on ST" I think their inverted W is very similar. From what I've seen, Prior and Reyes, who were teammates at USC, had their elbow higher above their shoulder than the pitchers above, they also flamed out at a younger age.

I have no problem with you being happy about this. I'm sure that you don't wish harm on anyone but this helps your Cubs. I don't think anyone here would be unhappy if Pavano, Verlanader or Liriano went down in ST. It just gives your team a better chance.

Tommy John is such a long surgery... especially in recovery.. with that being said, i know guys who have come back from TJ and have pitched even better than before... hate to throw the "everything happens for a reason" thing out but.......... who knows?
