I've been re-watching the ALCS dvds over the past few weeks. Last weekend I finished Game 2. One thing I had forgotten about is how amazing Crede's at-bat was. The Sox hadn't been able to touch Escobar for three innings. Crede took two strikes in order to let Ozuna steal second base. Crede smoked an 0-2 pitched for the game-winning double.

Give AJ credit, but Crede was the real hero in that game.

Same here...I was a a bar called Boston's in Del Ray Beach with a buddy. We were decked out in White Sox gear. Everyone there kind of just accepted it, shrugged their shoulders and said you deserved to win, you had the better team.

It was funny to hear him; I think the success of the White Sox caught him completely unprepared. He kept mentioning everyone on the Red Sox by their nicknames, including hitting coach "Papa Jack" or whatever his name was, but when the White Sox were batting you could almost hear him thumbing through the Media Guide to see who the heck was on the team. "Here's Joe Crede, who plays... Let's see here.... Uh, Third base, for Chicago.... He's batting, uh, .271 this season...."

Looking back now, letting it settle in 5 years later. I totally agree, Chris Berman ruined the ALDS for not just White Sox fans but all sports fans. His announcing is atrocious and he should be taken off the air immediately for the safety of all sports fans.

Three comments:

1. El Duque had Grande Cajones.

Classic Sox fan reaction - Sox sweep the ALDS on their way to a world championship, and we've gotta complain about a minor move that did or didn't happen.

Besides, Marte's performance in game three just paved the way for El Duque's heroics, which was quite possibly my favorite moment in the entire 2005 post season.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the decision was El Duque vs. McCarthy, not Marte vs. McCarthy. Sure McCarthy was great the final two months of the season (including in the make-up game on Labor Day at Fenway) but Ozzie went with Hernandez instead for his experience in big games.

During the 2005 playoffs, most WSI posters wanted the much more effective and reliable McCarthy to replace Marte. One poster mentioned Marte was pitching so bad that Guillen admitted he won't use Marte during home games!

Marte did not do the job in that inning, but.....there were about 3 or 4 pitches that to me were strikes. Remember the ump tellin Guillen and Cooper to cool it because they were barking like crazy at them.

Could not agree more, from the Graffanino error to the home run calls in game one, it was the worst broadcasting I have ever listened too. I can not remember what he said on Konerkos homerun in game 3 that gave the Sox the lead but it was so stupid and made no sense. If someone can remember please repost.
When El Duqe got Damon to strike out, at first Berman seems like he is happy that Damon walked, but when the Ump calls him out for not holding up, there went Berman again....Ohhhhhhh Nooooooo he went around. I prefered

Hocus Pocus says Hernandez,,,,,,,says Rooney....then Farmer chimes in, You give him the cap the cape and the wand he'll make a rabbit

Right - WE knew Marte was awful after seeing him however many times during the regular season, but going into the post season that year, I don't remember the team ever considering leaving him off the roster - it was always El Duque vs. McCarthy. Ozzie chose El Duque.

I didn't recall a decision on the playoff roster coming down to El Duque or McCarthy, but during a quick google search discovered two separate web sites stating what you wrote. In fact, whitesox.com had an article mentioning Reinsdorf wanted Guillen to put McCarthy on the playoff roster instead of El Duque.

That said, I still fault Guillen for putting Marte on the playoff roster instead of McCarthy.

At Game 1 and 2.

Game 2 was the greatest baseball game I've ever been to in my life. I remember being at Jimbo's afterward sitting outside and everybody I was with talking about how we never win those games.

The Iguchi HR was, I think, the craziest I've ever seen USCF and maybe the craziest I've ever seen a stadium.
