Daryl used to be one of the lead guys on preps at the Sun-Times, then I believe he was on the copy desk for a while. He also did some small college stuff.

Having covered a good amount of high school sports with him as a freelancer, I think Daryl will do well as the Sox beat guy. He's a quality writer and a really nice guy.

I wish him the best of luck on the new gig.

I'm mildly disappointed by this because there won't be anymore threads on here about how Cowley is trying to stir **** up.

So I'm guessing Cowley has earned a promotion with the SunTimes??? Good for him if so. A beat writer pretty much reports what they hear. They are not the inside scoop that everyone expects them to be then complains when they are wrong.

Good luck Joe.

Or, in Cowley's case, reports whatever his ass wants to in order to make KW look bad.

Will probably stop following Cowley's tweets now. I got so goddamn tired of all those "lol Trib Dictator" tweets. So unprofessional. No class about him.

As long as he doesn't take cheap shots at the Sox and say stupid **** on Twitter, they can hire Rip Van Winkle to cover the Sox for all I care.

Are you serious, Lip? It's 2011. Every writer, especially beat writers, need Twitter. It's the nature of the beast. You can't honestly think he doesn't need one.

Didn't say he didn't need one, simply asking why some consider it a "requirement" especially given what's posted on it the vast majority of the time. (i.e. insignificant nonense... Oney is a prime example isn't he?)

This is hilarious. Why should newspapers bother having an online edition?

People that don't use Twitter can honestly say that, I don't even know how it works to be honest.

Exactly. We also need a new writer on Twitter because now we are one short. We have Reifort, Merkin, Ballantini, Gonzalez. Plus guys like Rongey and Garfien, but now that we "lost" Cowley (yeah, addition by subtraction), I know... we need someone else to fill his place in the Twitterverse.

I have to wonder if tailgunner Joe is still going to hang around here doing searches for his name.

For beat reporters, Twitter is a must, especially around trade deadlines. Twitter is where all the big trade news breaks. He'll need one just for that.

No doubt.

So, when people ask him about his new gig:

"Hey, Daryl, what is your current job description?"

"Schouwen you what's going on in White Sox baseball!"
