Looks like those dreams of him taking an incentive-laden deal are not realistic.

With the premium placed on good bullpen arms, I kind've always felt the incentive laden cheap contract for Jenks was a pipe dream. Benoit, Guerrier, Downs, and Crain all received $4 to 5 million per for 3 years. Jenks is a closer who has a World Series under his belt and a track record of success. Someone will give him at LEAST a 2 year deal, maybe 3 years to close for them. I'd be stunned if he took the Yankees contract because I'm going to assume that he still wants to close. I always liked Bobby though and wish him the best of luck.

SI_JonHeyman (javascript:void(0);): jenks looking for "closer money," presumably $8 mil and up. not ideal fit for yanks, who need set-up help

Hey, if Jenks somehow gets that, more power to ya big guy. :D:

I think he will, not that I think he should. Fans (and presumably teams) around the league don't have the same traumatic memories of Jenks blowing games against division rivals that we do. He is still generally thought of as a quality closer. Maybe he is with a change of scenary. I've always thought the incentive-laden contract was a pipedream.

I guess the rest of MLB hasn't watched him close out games for the last couple seasons. His WHIP is on a steady 3 year incline now, and I don't know if there are many around here who would trust him to get big outs consistently anymore.

Bobby Jenks has saved 173 games in his career. He's blown 26 saves.

Last year he had 4 blown saves. Who do the Sox have now that you are certain could do better ? Or even that well?

It's too bad KW held onto Jenks for so long since the rest of the league clearly values him even after his worst year.

Who did the Sox have in '05 before Bobby stepped in? You never know until you give someone a shot. Sale and Santos both have the stuff to close right now. I wouldn't mind either of them getting a shot.

You break up with a girl for a reason, fellas, so don't get too upset when someone else wants to date her.

Indeed. H/9, BB/9, WHIP, ERA, ERA+ all trending the wrong way over the last 3 years.

Good riddance.
