Just saw this on MLB Network. Supposedly before the start of the 1996 season, the Mariners offered Felix Fermin to the Yankees for Mariano Rivera, and the Yankees almost accepted. Remember at the time, Wettland was their closer and Jeter was in Triple A. If the Yankees would have taken Fermin, Jeter would have probably stayed in the minors for at least another season and Rivera wouldn't have been signed by the Yankees as a free agent until about 2001.

Or maybe Rivera never learns the cutter and bounces back and forth between the majors and AAA for a 3 year career. Who knows.

More likely Felix Fermin would have won eight straight Gold Glove Awards and married Jessica Simpson. Ah, the hands of fate.
