Looks like Joe is going to make another go of it. He would be a good fit as a Defensive minded 3B with some pop for a lot of teams....maybe for a team like St. Louis. Low risk high reward guy.

I hope he makes it all the way back. Crede is one of those guys who is much better than his numbers suggest. He got a lot of big hits and saved a lot of runs for the Sox.

People are going to flame me but a 1 year contract laden with incentives for us?

Remember, we have no 3rd baseman. As much as I would want to give Morel a chance it would be worth it in my eyes.

Sorry. Morel is better at this point. He can, you know, move.

I was only saying if he was healthy. Morel hasn't done squat yet in his career. I'm not going to get caught up in one month's worth of play in garbage time.

Yeah, a 32-year-old player who sat out a full season and has had some serious back problems would be a non-story if he hadn't been a star on the 2005 team.

Sorry, Joe, loved what you did for us and wish you the best of luck, but time to move on. Unless he can pitch out of the bullpen. Then sign his ass up.

So, at what point do you give a guy a chance as opposed to signing an 32 year old who sat out all year?

Morel deserves a shot unless they plan on signing Beltre.

I don't know, the guy's hit pretty well everywhere he's stopped in the minors, and he flashed some real defensive skills in his tryout at third.

I wouldn't cry if the Sox found some more help for 3B. Just not Joe Crede.

I hope Morel gets a fair shot at 3rd; I was especially impressed with his arm.

Good for Joe. Just please don't be with a Central rival.

I like what I saw from Morel. He has won accolades thruout the minors.
We need another home grown (cheap for a while) player.

Pencil Morel at third, bat him low in the lineup and give him a few months to see how he does.

You should be Morel Than Pleased.

I wouldn't mind him as the backup 3B to Morel, to bad they already resigned Vizquel

Too bad? WHAT? I'll take Omar 10 out of 10 times, please.

2005!

This mirrors my thoughts exactly. Joe was my favorite player on the Sox for a long time. That said seeing he is coming back is cool and I will be pulling for him, but I didn't even begin to think that I would want him on the Sox.

On a cold October night in 2005 when the Sox were in Anaheim, I promised Joe Crede that I would never again call him a bum. So I will remain silent in this thread.

You'll just make sure everyone knows that you think he's a bum. Not much difference, IMO.

I hope he finally makes that comeback. He was a great player.

You don't have to think he's a bum, just acknowledge that he's probably not going to help an MLB team this year. Hell, Robin Ventura is still my favorite player ever, that doesn't mean I want the Sox to invite him to Spring Training.

I do if it is to replace Ken Harrelson.

They better not sign Beltre, not for the kind of money he thinks hes worth

Tangentially, Omar Vizquel is older than Robin Ventura, albeit only about 3 months.

Will his agent let team doctors examine his back before they sign him? I think not.

I hope Joe sticks with someone but I wouldn't trust that bionic back of his. It's a shame, because I think it really shortened a promising career.

And would be an absolute waste of a roster spot.

Cmon people. Joe Crede? Really?

This was a question posed to Merkin on the team website. Would he accept a minor league deal?

Stupid idea is stupid. Just like most of the questions Merkin has to answer in such columns.

As you can see from this merged thread, we just discussed this last month. But, if you feel more discussion is needed, feel free.
