Right handed relief pitcher that is kind of old for AA. Doesn't have a fantastic K-rate or BB-rate. Not sure on the arsenal yet, but seems to be a marginal prospect at best.

From SBN's Talking Chop, they have him as the system's 5th best relief prospect.

5. Kyle Cofield (http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/players/103252/kyle-cofield) - B/T: R/R, Born: 01/23/1987, Ht: 6'5" Wt: 230 - Kyle Cofield has been around for a long time in prospect years but is still just 23 years old. He has always been known as a hard thrower with a good pitcher's body but has never produced the way a fireballer should, posting low strike out totals and living off his ability to induce ground balls. He gained some notoriety in 2010 when he stuck around big league camp longer than anyone anticipated when Bobby Cox developed a man crush on him. He was eventually cut and started the season in Mississippi (on the 40 man roster) but missed nearly 2 months due to an injury. Before the injury he had been used primarily as a starter for most of his career, but once he returned he pitched out of the bullpen and that will likely be his ticket to the majors. In the past he has struggled with his control (he issued 89 walks in 2009) but in 2010 he cut nearly 5% from his walk ratio in 2009 while raising his K% from 13.*% to 15.4%. With so many guys slotted ahead of him Cofield has an uphill battle in getting to the majors, but don't be surprised if he gets a longer look than anticipated for a second straight year and eventually makes his debut if injuries take their toll.

Spoke with source who says #Braves (http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23Braves) will acquire a reliever from #WhiteSox (http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23WhiteSox) for Cofield. Carlos Quentin not involved. Still trying to confirm.

I would hope TCQ would not be involved in a deal for some meddling borderline pitching prospect in AA.

No kidding.

It's also worth noting that Cofield pitched exactly one inning in the AFL this year. That's enough for Kenny.

Yeah, where the **** did that come from? Was there a rumor I missed where the Braves were trying to acquire Q?

Holy ****. He traded Scott Linebrink.

Wow. Is Kenny already in the lead for Executive of the Year after just 3 days?

We gave up $1.5M in cash in the deal, but still a fantastic move.

living off his ability to induce ground balls

Sounds exactly like a KW type of pitcher.

Don't you get the feeling that if the Braves tried to back out at the last minute and said no we can't give you Coffield just a beach ball for Linebrink and $ 1.5 mil. Kenny would have agreed instantly?

That article says we paid 3.5 million. Is it 1.5 or 3.5 million?

Either way Cofield doesn't sound like much. I think the Sox are basically just buying out Linebrink's contract.
