So long, Big Guy. You were standing on the mound for out #27 of Game 4, so you'll always have a special place in all our hearts. Sorry it had to end this way. :(:

I remember it like it was yesterday when he was called up in that summer of 2005 and Hawk was gushing all over this kid from Birmingham with a 98 mph fastball. Anyway, thanks alot Bobby, you were always one of my favorites.

Well said. We'll always remember the Summer and Fall of 2005, but it is time to move on.

Best of luck, except against us, of course.

This is sad news .
Bobby was such a great contributor to this team for many years.
I know he had some health problems and his wife did too.
I hope Bobby does well in the future and his contributions here

I'll never forget The Big Guy. Thanks, Bobby, not just for 2005, but that 40+ save season in 2006 and that streak of 41 consecutive batters retired in 2007. Fun to watch! Good luck wherever you go.

I just looked at that DVD last week. Bagwell, bad shoulder, couldn't throw but trying to hit, up against 100. Unfair.

Longer than most closers last in one place. Good luck, Bobby.

You speak the truth, sir. A long run indeed. Plenty of Ambien needed at times, but that's closers.

This was the very moment my dad's favorite Sox player became Bobby Jenks. Since then, he has enjoyed seeing Jenks pitch both at the ballpark and when we'd watch a game. I got him a "Here Comes the BOOM!" t-shirt from the custom t-shirt shop a few years ago and he's worn it so much that the colors are faded and washed out. Hopefully, they don't get rid of that screen print before I get a chance to get him another t-shirt! With all that said, my dad will be sad to hear that his favorite Sox player won't be pitching for the Sox the next time he goes to a game.

Like all the other players from that special team we watched five years ago, Bobby Jenks will never, ever be forgotten. To the wide, tall guy, thanks for a lifetime of memories and one hell of a save in Game 4 of the World Series!

I'll never forget when Bobby was first called up in 05 and threw in middle relief against the Yankees in New York. I was at the game, and he touched 102. The stadium crowd buzzed all night after he blew away Sheffield on four pitches.

Be well, Bobby. And clean up that chin.

I remember watching that on TV when Hawk referred to him as "the barrel chested Bobby Jenks" and thinking he was just going to be some garbage reliever as our bullpen was in shambles at that time. Needless to say after his inning of work I no longer thought that, and it was around that time that I really felt they could win it all. I will always be thankful for what Jenks gave us that year, and throughout his 5 years with the White Sox.

It's sad to see his time come to an end, but to be honest I would much rather it be like this; parting amicably for business reasons rather than the bottom completely falling out, or a career-ending injury.

I wouldn't mind at all if he signed an incentive-laden deal with very little guaranteed money. What's the risk? He knows our coaches, he's comfortable here, as long as the Sox protect themselves against his recent bouts of ineffectiveness or injury, it couldn't hurt. We only have 2 real bullpen arms signed at this point, sometimes, to build a successful bullpen you need to take chances, throw some **** on the wall, and see what sticks.

Such a contract also gives him incentive to keep himself healthy and in shape.

As far as throwing **** on the wall, it worked with Thornton. Seattle had given up on him and we got him for a busted prospect.

It doesn't hurt. One can sure do worse than having Bobby in the pen. I wouldn't want him to the the closer obviously, but I would be far from against signing him to a deal worth around 3 million per for a year or two.

I'll always remember the game I was at in 2005 sitting in the scout seats.

Among the noteable scouts present was former White Sox manager Jim Fregosi, who was sitting right behind us, up just one row.

The scouts were all just sort of sitting there watching the game until......

All of a sudden it looked like a State Trooper Convention. When Jenks was brought in, all the scouts, Fregosi included, just whipped out the speed guns.

After popping off about ten pitches, the buzz among the scouts was just awesome to hear, especially the one for BOS who said there was no reason why Jenks should not have been closing, as the lightest reading was 99 on his gun, and they loved the yakking curveball he had back then.

That was more than a half a decade ago, and time has gone on.

I for one will never forget that Summer of 2005, and the first half of 2006. However it is time to make a change, and I wish the big guy the best wherever he goes, except when he is pitching against us.

Why not the closer? If he shows he has what it takes, he should be the closer. Not many guys in baseball have the experience he has in closing.

I think this is a dead issue though. Bobby seems like he really wanted to stay here, if the Sox were interested, They would have told him that they were going to non tender him and then offer a contract. It doesnt sound like they did this.

Great story, but didn't happen, just looked up the boxscore and play-byplay at baseball reference.com and Bobby did pitch one inning against Yanks in that series (which I too attended) and Sheffield flew out to right......
