Does he become their SS or 2B? Aren't Ryan and Schumaker still in the picture for next year?

It's possible they plan on using him as a utility man. I'm not familiar enough with the Cardinals roster to know for sure though. For the Cardinals sake, they should only play him at 2B because he doesn't have the arm for SS.

Imagine if a former "fan favorite" of the White Sox said that after being dealt to the Twins. WSI would go nuclear.

Yeah. I mean if Rowand, or to take an actual example, Thome actually said that.

I can't imagine.

Which is a shame, because people want to murder him on this site for playing for the Twins. Mostly the same people who get mad the Indians' fans booing him.

I don't think I ever saw anyone on this site being that angry towards Jim. I must have missed a lot of gamethreads, because I don't recall anything negative being spoken of Thome.

The Indians fans do want Thome's blood for whatever reason.

Really? I did not see any such postings. 100% of the anger here over Thome's signing with the Twins was directed at Ozzie (and, to a lesser extent, Kenny). The Twins were the only team to make him an offer, so what was he to do, pull a Jermaine Dye?

You obviously missed the countless posts of people saying "**** Off Jim Thome" then. And the arguments that happened afterwards.

Trust me. They exist.

Go look in gamethreads when we played the Twins. They are there. People saying **** off Jim Thome and how they hate him because he is a Twin now.

But where did Thome say he was glad to be on the Twins' side of the Sox/Twins rivalry? Nowhere. That was my point. I did not say "Sox fans jumped for joy every time he went yard against us."

I recall that as well. But, I think most of that occurred after he hit a mammoth walk-off shot to RF at Target Field against our beloved SOX. I don't think that warrants a "**** off", but I am sure emotions got in the way for some.

They don't hate him. They were upset he did his job at our expense. But, if we somehow land Joe Mauer, we would expect him to take it hard to the Twins on our behalf. That is different from expressing anger over a signing.

Well that's also because he was raking for the Twins, a lot of that was posted in the heat of the moment, while he was killing us. You can respect the guy to no end, but when he's hitting a walk-off homer against you, what do you expect? "Nice hit, Thome?"

Ha Ha! Before I got to your post, that is exactly what I was thinking! That has to be painful for Cubs fans, especially those with "The Riot" t-shirts.

RE: Thome- While I won't curse him and I do appreciate what he did for the Sox, there is no way I'm going to feel good about him playing well for the Twinkees or criticize those who do curse him as they would any other Twinkee.

If I'm a Cardinal fan, I don't really see any reason to get excited about this. He's a slap hitter, and reports are saying that he's going to play SS, but Theriot is well-below average at short, and he has noodle arm to boot.

I'll still never forgot a certain Cub/Brewer game last season where the Brewers had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, with Theriot playing 3B. On a routine ground ball that would have taken the game into extras had Theriot got the easy out at 1B, he instead decides to gun down Ricky Weeks at home, at which point Weeks scores because Theriot's throw couldn't even make it to home plate without taking one hop. The Brewers celebrate their walk-off win as Theriot and Soto argue with the umpire. Classic Cub moment.

...and talk about a stab in the heart of Cub fans everywhere with that Tweet. That's got to hurt...

Listen to the interview here (http://media.kfns.com/Podcasts/1670/Segment_5_11-30-10.mp3). Theriot's comment is at the start of the interview. He's laughing as he's saying it. To me at least I don't see it as a dig against the Cubs, the guy's just having bit of fun.

Who hates Thome? How many posters here hate Thome? Examples, please. If you're going to make that accusation about posters here post examples.

I don't understand why they turned on Thome as they pretty much ignored Manny when Boston played there.

I heard Cleveland writer Terry Pluto on WFAN last week and he says Tribe fans are watching but they will no longer buy many tickers as long as Dolan owns the team.

Indians are making money thanks to STO Cable and fans there are convinced Dolan is now following the Pirates model.

Thge team isn't moving as there is no place to go.

During his contract year, Thome said he would never leave Cleveland. Then Philly offered him 10x the money Cleveland offered. Everyone but Indians fans completely understood why he left since the Phillies offered monster money to the dribble the Tribe offered. Indians fans directed their anger towards the wrong person-should have been Tribe mgmt who did not want to pay him.

Fast forward seven years. LaBron James who had once said he would never leave Cleveland................

Anybody who has ever been to Cleveland would understand people wanting to leave it.

If it was me, I'd have taken less money just to get the hell away from Cleveland. :D:

I'm speaking of Thome, but I guess it applies for LeBallhog as well.

It sounds like it's a dig at the Cubs organization's approach to winning.

I don't see this as being nearly as bad as Bobby Howry when he joined the Cubs and he pretty much ripped on Sox fans by saying he was glad to be on the right side of town now.

I listened to the interview (http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/2010/11/30/1847249/cards-trade-hawksworth-for-theriot). It's nothing. Theriot was laughing when he made the "right side of the rivalry" comment. This is just a slow news day, pot-stirring attempt story.

Bingo! IIRC Jay Johnstone (former White Sox) said "you can just stick the Sox somewhere, 'cause this is a Cub town" back in 1984.

Whatever respect I may have had for him flew out the window after he said that.
