UPDATE: Source tells me that the Buck deal is, in fact, worth more than $15M. #Florida (http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23Florida) #Marlins (http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23Marlins) #MLB (http://twitter.com/#%21/search?q=%23MLB)

Setting the catcher's market? I think AJ will field similar offers.

Toronto will automatically receive type B compensation for Buck since he signed before the 23rd.

The amount and years on this deal makes it seem more likely that the Sox offer arbitration to AJ.

Thank God.

He literally had a 1.096 OPS against us last season.

Good news if you want AJ back - saw something yesterday implying the Marlins and AJ had mutual interest.

I fully expect the Rangers to be in the mix for AJ.

Yeah, the Marlins were purportedly a good fit for AJ, so this is one less option on his plate (unless he's willing to platoon with/back-up Buck for a hefty pay decrease).

Jim has up a very good piece on how the Buck deal affects the arbitration decision on AJ:

By what date do the Sox need to decide on offering arbitration to AJ? What if he signs a deal with another team today before the Sox make a decision to offer arbitration?

Nov. 23rd is the deadline for offering. The 30th is the deadline for accepting/declining by the player.

If a would be "A" or "B" free agent signs before then, the player's former team is automatically granted draft pick compensation.
