Hey all - Way back in 1988, when I was 10 years old, my parents won an auction item that enabled me to be an honorary batboy for the White Sox! Every kid's dream! One of the best nights of my life, that's for sure. Ah, 80s nostalgia...

I've been going through some old photos and found the photos from that night. I'd love to be able to identify all of the players that were nice enough to take photos with me before the game. Can any of you help? Here's the list with links...

#1 - no idea who this is

Looking at #7, looks like they held Sox fest in somebody's basement.

I remember John Davis only because I have about 3 or 4 of his baseball card from one year. I remember always being disappointed when I kept getting them in packs and wondering who the heck he was.

I've got a card album with the Sox 1980's covered. It took a couple minutes to ID some of those obscure relief pitchers. Pawlowski had an 88 Donruss card, so I would have no idea who that is otherwise. He's actually the Auburn head coach now.

I remembered them all, but kudos for getting them so quick.

Bill Long pitched some nice games for the White Sox, including his first appearance in about two weeks resulting in him throwing a nice shutout in 1987.

John Pawlowski had a solid two week stretch in 1988, including a game when he was Fregosi's last available pitcher in an extra innings. He pitched nearly three scoreless to get a win. The started gatting tagged and disappeared for good.

John Davis always reminded me of Roger Clemens at that time, both looks, size, and stuff wise. He was one of the key components received in the trade of Floyd Bannister to KC. Had decent stuff but couldn't throw strikes, and was suppose to be Thigpen's set up guy, but he didn't work out and that led Dave LaPoint being traded to PIT for Barry Jones.

I'll never forget the horror with Walker having a seizure on the field during BP that year.

This was a bygone era. That team fell to shreds after the ASB, but these were some of the nicest guys to ever wear a White Sox uniform.

LOL. Inside of Old Comiskey did look like someone's run-down basement.

Awesome pictures. But I couldn't remember who John Pawlowski was.

That "basement" was the dugout! If I get motivated later tonight or tomorrow I'll upload the other pics...a couple of me and bro with Roobarb and Ribbie, plus Fisk, Guillen, and a few others.

That's Roobarb.

You're right. I always thought Roobarb was the one with the the elephant snout thingy, but you're right that was Ribbie now that I did some deep googling. You'll find that in almost all photos online, they are "Ribbie and Roobarb" with the orange one on the left and the purple one on the right. That said, I think their names fit better the other way around, but maybe that's just me. I wonder if their costumes are locked up somewhere at 333 W. 35th...

My Mnemonic method of remembering that was: Ribbie reminded me of the Philly Fanatic...really just a lavender version of him. "Ribbie" and "Phillie" are more similar than Roobarb and Philly/Phillie.

Interestingly, if you really want to get technical, Ribbie and Roobarb were designed by the same firm that designed the Phillie Phanatic! Now that I've found that totally useless fact, I think it's time for bed

Great shots!

Nice pic of Roobarb. Inside the costume is Dan LeMonnier, who was also Bennie the Bull.
