I think the title covers it. Way to go, Rios.

Good pitching by Freddy and Matt, terrible defense, timely hitting.

We won AND gained a game on the Twins.....oh wait....

Rios played this game like he didnt give a **** but he comes up with a huge hit to plate a run and take pierre off the hook for a bad base running play....

I think if we win out we can finish with 90 wins.....no problem!

nice win tho.....always feels good to see a W go up

Nice job by Freddy. I think he has pitched pretty well this year, although he doesn't get much love here.

Some pretty ugly defense tonight. Rios is an enigma - he makes the most spectacular plays sometimes, and other times duffs the fairly routine play. He gets a pass today for hitting in the winning run.

2 in a row! :bandance: "That's called a winning streak..." Lou Brown :D:

First couple months of the season I felt that we had our best chance to win when Garcia pitched.....

The funny thing is, Ozzie would have put out a worse lineup if we were actually still in the race. The man has no clue.

Magic number to clinch second place down to 7!

For what he's getting compared to other starters, he's been a good value. It's at least worth taking a look at him next spring. Contracts to PK on his 30th HR. I'd love to see him reach 40 for the third time in his career.

Wow. I thought my job was tough, but predicting things that will never happen.....that takes talent!

I believe Paulie hit his 38th homerun yesterday and is second in the AL with homeruns :)

Way to go Paulie !!!
I hope he comes back next year --

Garcia's held up as well, if not better, than our other starters. He's pitching as well now as he did early in the year.
Thanks, Freddy, for a full-season worth of effort.

You may have picked the right word for the wrong reason.

The Sox have clinched a .500 season with this 81st win. It's certainly been a roller coaster ride to this mark.

How do you figure? That was his first full start in about a month. Before that his previous starts after 4 and 2 innings with back trouble after his good start against the Yankees a month ago. Before that start against New York, he had been pitching badly for about a month.

I thought the line was more along the lines of "We've won two in a row. We win one more, that's called a 'WINNING STREAK'."

Love it though!

Only 12 behind Jose Bautista...can PK catch him?

If this division was as ****ty as everyone thought it was going to be, we would still be in it right now.

I figure it this way.
His ERAs at the end of each month from April-August were 5.87, 5.26, 4.66, 4.73, and 4.89.

His current ERA is 4.74. 3 of his last 4 starts have been effective.

I say he's held up and it's particularly noteworthy considering his age.

I guess the meaning of effective could be debatable. Going 4 and 2 innings isn't terribly effective for a starter. At best, he's pitched effectively twice since August 10.

Are the Sox still playing? I do have tickets for tomorrows game right behind home plate thanks to an Angeles fan and friend of mine. He is just as discouraged as most of us..!!

You are correct...I was trying to be upbeat! (and anticipating tonight's win ? :D: )

Being 11-6 up to this point is far better than I expected from Freddy. He won 9 of 10 starts in May and June (1 ND) but seemed to wear down as the season went on. For what the Sox paid him...not bad at all.

Garcia should have 15 wins, easy.

Some of the worst bullpen blowups have occurred in his starts. The Sunday meltdown in Minnesota, the Raburn homer with two outs in the ninth at Detroit, the grand slam Betancourt hit off Santos in KC, etc., etc.

Those were all games that should have been wins for Freddy. He's pitched well this season.

Especially considering he's a journeyman pitcher at this point in his career not expected to do a ton out of that 5th starter spot, you're right, pitched very well.

I think people knew the Twins would be pretty good. No, we were assured that once they moved outside, away from the extreme home-field advantage the Humpdome gave them, we'd see them struggle.
