Haven't seen a replay yet, but he was hit by a piece of a broken bat while on 3B. It was only a few inches from his heart. He was taken to the hospital where the wound was sutured. There was some internal bleeding, but it seems he is okay. Scary.

That is scary, never saw or heard of that happenning before. Glad to hear he will be OK.

MLB's been talking about it for a long time now, maybe this will force them to finally do something about all of these shattered bats.

Thought they already did. I've seen WAY less this year than last.

So, will Kevlar become required material in jerseys?

Hope he is ok.

Sounds like Colvin is going to be OK. That could have been a lot worse.

I have been worried that something like this was gonna happen for a while now. Wow, that's scary.

Sounds like he'll be fine. Good thing it wasn't worse.

Sounds like he was lucky, it could have been his neck or face. Let's hope he recovers 100%

Could have been a lot worse- see how close he was to home when he got hit? That's a lot of force at a short distance. Glad he's okay.

It's time MLB approved laminated bats.

This isn't a first for the maple bats. Pirates coach Don Long had the sharp end hit him in the face, requiring stitches and causing permanent nerve damage.

I heard that as a result of this, his season is over.

How many times have we heard Hawk warn about something like this? Thankfully he's not going to have permanent injuries from this, but it's time that MLB got rid of these maple bats. The bats are often given excessive heat treatments that improve performance, but also increase breaks like this.

Forget the force, or how close he was to the batter, it looks like the thing missed his heart by inches! They really need to do something. It's only a matter of time before it's a lot worse. The other huge risk, IMO, is the fans. If this would have happened to a fan, you can believe things would happen. But, baseball is so slow at changing things (which often times I'm ok with), that I'm not sure anything (or at least anything meaningful) will come from this.

If this would have happened to a fan, you can believe things would happen. There have already been fans injured, in addition to the Pirates coach I referenced earlier.
