Shouldn't Viciedo be getting more "grooming" time this month to see what he has instead of letting Teahen continue to be mediocre?

I'm still waiting for Teahen to be mediocre.

No.

Viciedo has no future at 3B, and this isn't the time to be grooming players anyway.

I'd rather see Morel groomed at 3B.

Agreed. And I'm not so sure it's time for grooming guys yet.

So, Teahen should continue starting?

No. If Beckham comes back, the point is moot.

If he doesn't, put Morel at 3B for defense. Or else move Vizquel back to 3B and play Lillibridge at 2B.

In other words, pray that Beckham is OK.

Viciedo, like Teahen, is a butcher at 3B and has no business there.

You're right. Of course, Vizquel was moved to third base essentially to provide defense. He wasn't expected to hit as well as he has. But Vizquel is an experienced baseball player and third in hits among all active players.

But if players don't learn a position, they end up with mediocre careers at best. Bill Melton learned to play third. Bobby Bonilla learned to play third. Pablo Sandoval learned to play third. And no one thought such things would be possible.

Even if Morel wiffs at every major league pitch thrown at him, maybe that's still better than having Teahen give away more outs and runs when our playoff hopes are hanging by a thread.

When it's over, we will have a W/L record with Teahen and a W/L record without Teahen. Poor guy...:(:

You're thinking of Kotsay. Teahen rarely bothers to take the bat off his shoulder.

Via the excellent Sox Machine, here's a flow chart (http://soxmachine.com/2010/09/09/diagramming-mark-teahens-defense/) diagramming Teahen's awful fielding.

Solid ****ing gold.
