Of course, we all know Shin-Soo Choo, native of South Korea, has had the looming mandatory military service hanging over his head; he's 28 years old and all males are required to put in a 2-year tour of duty before they turn 30. Clock is ticking.

Apparently, it's widely believed that Choo can earn himself an exemption from the military... as long as Korea wins the Gold medal at the Asian Games this November.

It takes several years to complete and there are various requirements that have to be met. Also, why do you think he would want to renounce his Korean citizenship? That is a decision which is not usually taken very lightly.
