I've been to Comerica a few times but always drove in and out on the same day. This year with a Sox/Tiger night game on September 8th and a day game on the 9th a few of us are considerng an overnight trip. I used the search function, but the last time we had a disussion on this was two years ago - and very negative. So, without getting into a "Detroit sucks" discussion, can any body update me on:

A. A decent downtown hotel to stay at.

B. The current rules and regs. about getting in and out of Canada.

C. Suburban Detroit hotel options.

You need a valid U.S. Passport.

Everything you need to know about Canada and then some: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html#entry_requirements

I stayed at the Best Western Gateway International in Romulus two years ago for a Sox/Tigers series. It was cheap, and the hotel was above average. I wasn't too impressed with food options downtown, but the Motown Museum is a must-visit if you're a music geek like me.

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Washington Street quite a few times. It's usually pretty reasonable - $100 a night and you get breakfast in the AM. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from Comerica.

I would do the "name your own price" on priceline. Check out recent bids on http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showforum=105&

I'm going to both games as well. I'll be at the Hilton Garden Inn which is a very short walk to the ballpark- it's a nice hotel and depending on budget could be right up your alley.

Also, if anyone is interested I have an extra ticket to the Wednesday night game (lower deck 1st base side). PM me if you might be interested.

Stay in Canada at the casino if possible.

The DoubleTree looks like it was just built yesterday and is about $100/night. They have a shuttle that will take you to the game.

DoubleTree is my favorite hotel chain out there.

C. Suburban Detroit hotel options.

I can recommend some suburban Motel 6 locations to stay away from.
