View Full Version : Frustrating things to expect during this upcoming series with the twins

1989

Denard Span and Joe Mauer having tea cup-sized strikezones

Numerous seeing-eye and bloop base hits dropping for the twins

The Sox getting screwed by the BABIP gods by hitting line drives right at twin outfielders

The twins pulling quite a few plays out of their asses and never making an error

Watching Jason Repko play like a right-handed version of Carl Crawford

The twins taking the lead in the top of the 9th after a routine pop up hits a bird and falls for hit with two outs and the bases loaded

Having to look at Jason Kubel

Agreed. People forget how lopsided this series has been in favor of the home team the last few years.

It's what we expect to happen after losing three of four to the Orioles.

I mean obviously we are sweeping these guys in three games with a combined score of 42-3 in the three games.

The series is in Chicago. I expect the Sox to take at least 2, maybe 3 if Freddy is on tonight. Think there's a lot of hand wringing over nothing.

I reminded myself why I typically stay out of gamethreads yesterday.

You guys make me ill, no faith at all. This team has risen to the challenge all year, especially at home.

The only frustrating thing I expect is the Chicago media not giving us due props after we sweep these clowns out of town.

But I expect us to take at least 2 games here. We NEED to take 2 games here, at least. A sweep would be nice, but even I'm not that greedy.

"Frustrating things":

Scott Baker and his 1.29 ERA vs. the SOX will be frustrating, despite him sucking a horse's ass vs the rest of the baseball world, leading to the SOX "tipping your hat" to a ****ty pitcher.
Francisco Liriano and his 3.29 ERA vs. the SOX will be frustrating.
AJ swinging at the first pitch, popping up, and Ozzie starting him v LHP, despite his .238 OBP v lefites/Castro's .409 OBP v LHP will be frustrating.

However, in a previous thread, I had the SOX winning this series 2-1, so it'll be OK.

VeeckAsInWreck

Let's relax. The Sox are a much better home team and will be just fine.

Thank you. Mercy, I expect the negativity in game threads and postgame threads (whether after a win or a loss). It wasn't even this negative in here during the "collapse" in August and September of 2005. It's enough to make a guy barricade himself in the Parking Lot and not come out until November.

I *hope* that I don't have to listen to the manager, the hitting coach or the players make excuses about "trying to do too much" at the plate. I read that crap again in the paper this morning.

I'm so tired of watching Sox hitters shrink from challenges for the past 4 1/2 years. Scott Baker is a middle-of-the-rotation starter. He's 9-9 with a 4.70 ERA. Glen Perkins has been in the minors all season. The Sox are playing at home. There's no reason not to hit these guys.

I don't want to hear about "pressure." The Twins are under "pressure" as well. Cut the mental midget crap and get the job done. No excuses.

The boys stopping, the ball not getting back there, not cinching up nor hunkering down, not bowing our neck, looking for it getting it but not doing anything with it...and last but not least, not putting it on the board. Those things would frustrate me.

The belief that these things will transpire whenever we play the Twins has a lot to do with why these things transpire when we play the Twins.

This is equal to the goat and curses that the Red Sox had on them. The Twins are not miracle workers, they are another baseball team, and they can and will be beat.

It's selective memory. Unpleasant things are remembered more than pleasant ones, as a relic of evolutionary survival.

In the Ozzie era:

2010 3 - 6
2009 6 - 12
2008 9 - 10
2007 9 - 9
2006 9 - 10
2005 11 - 7
2004 9 - 10
Funny how whenever there's a 19-game series, the Twinks always manage the odd game win. Note also the horrible 2007 season.

But we have never really played them horribly until last year. The everything will go wrong mentality has completely taken over. We can't allow the Twins to have that edge as well.

And, they had a winning record in the Metrodump during the Ozzie regime prior to 2008. Also, that terrible doubleheader we all remember in 2007? Well, the Sox won the next two games to split the four games series. There was also a game that very same year where the Twins, in a tied game, scored six runs in the ninth inning. The Sox? They came back with six runs in the bottom half and ended up winning in extras. They also took the first two series in Chicago last year until getting swept late in September when the Sox couldn't beat anyone but Detroit.

I'm tired of the mental approach to the Twins myself. I'm well aware they have a very good lineup this year, but their pitching isn't that great. The Sox gained 14 games on them in the standings in a little over a month just this season alone. I feel pretty good about this series because it's at home, since the series has been lopsided to the home team lately.

I don't think you're stupid....exactly. This kind of reminds me of a line in the Broadway play, "Damn Yankees," where the player says something like "The Yankees are special. We don't make the same goofs when we play _______."

I'm beginning to think that the Sox should seek psychiatric help with regard with the Twins. And maybe you...and some others...should buy in too!

I know I'm not the first person to make this point and I'm sure it's getting old by now, but if someone had said in May that we would be playing the Twins with first place on the line in the middle of August, we would be ecstatic. This team has shown more perseverance than a Sox team has shown in a while, let's not write ourselves off just because we happen to be playing the Twins.
